Denied

My son just received an email from CSUSB today and they said he was denied. This is what the email said…

You do not meet the minimum CSU admissions requirement in A-G courses. First year applicants must complete the A-G college preparatory pattern of courses with grades of “C” or better. Since you have not met this requirement, you are not eligible for admission to CSUSB at this time.

My son had failed Math Honors but re took it and got a B. Wouldn’t this have shown on the transcript? Is this why he was denied? Is it an error in the transcript from the school? My son is going to see his counselor tomorrow. I’m just confused if that’s the reason or does it mean he didn’t take the correct course for CSU requirements because he also applied to CSUF and CSULB.

Please help I need answers. Does this mean he will also get denied to the other cal states he applied to?

Only his high school counselor will know the answer. Maybe she can contact the school for you if it is an error.

Grades are self reported on the CSU and UC application by the applicant. Transcripts are sent only after one has been accepted and decides to attend the school. Have you reviewed his application? Your son can log-in and review this on the A-G matching sections in the Cal State Apply website to see if there is an error or possible A-G deficiency.

For repeated courses: “CSU defines repeated courses as the exact same course with the exact same course title taken at the same school at a later time. If you repeated a course, enter the highest grade(s) earned for the course. Do not enter this repeated course twice. If the repeated course is planned or in progress, enter the original grade earned since a new grade has not yet been earned.”

contact both of the schools TODAY and be sure they know about the re-take. Ask them what they need to document the re-take and send it ASAP.

I’m planning on contacting them this morning. Wouldn’t they have seen that on the transcript? I just hope it’s an error on their part

You do not send transcripts to the CSU’s. You self report your grades on the application and send transcripts later if requested or after enrolling.

You and his counselor can review his CSU application online. Your son entered his grades into the CSU system and matched them to the appropriate category. The CSU application has a matching feature that clearly shows all of the A-G courses required and highlights anything that is missing. His counselor can also call the CSU to get clarification.

Thanks everyone, my son did an appeal today with his counselor. She also sent over his transcripts as documentation. She said he should’ve gotten accepted and that he did satisfy his a-g requirement. So now we just wait, they have 15 days to respond.

Late response but we did an appeal and he was accepted to CSUSB. Currently on a waitlist for CSUF right now…

Great news! So what was the issue? Did your son make a mistake entering his coursework in the application system?

@grgscrjr Thanks! I believe it was an error on their part because we did enter a re-take on a course which he did get a B for. His counselor did send them an email and an attachment on the repeated course. It was a hassle and frustrating but in the end all worked out…

Thanks for circling back and Congrats! i am glad this worked out.

Good luck next year.
