My son applied RD to Denison and it is one of his top two choices. I was just wondering when do they notify you of admissions decisions? He applied EA at all of his other schools and is finding it hard to wait.

According to DU’s website, RD applicants are notified by April 1. If I remember, DU sent out an email or letter at some point (or perhaps posted a note on the web site), saying “letters will go out on ________” with the date they were to be sent. And that’s exactly when they were mailed.

Dittos on Zetesis’ response. With emphasis on “exactly.” Not earlier, not later. They are rigid about this, it seems, at least in recent admission campaigns, even with pressure from many top students jockeying to determine their status in multiple races.

Denison is one of my top choices. What do they mean “by April 1st”? Is it usually mid-March or exactly April 1st? I’ve heard from all my other colleges, including merit aid. Denison seems like a great fit for me, but this waiting is putting me off.

I just got a letter, it says they will notify applicants on March 16th. It also said they received 4700 apps for 600 spots. In the past they’ve accepted about 2300, according to our Naviance.

Look for the letter, addressed to your parents. It explains why they don’t do rolling admissions.

My parents got the letter today too. March 16th is better than April 1st. Got my fingers crossed.

Me too, on my S’ behalf. Good luck to you too :)

We received the letter about 4,700 applications for roughly 600 places.

Is this a likely letter, or am I reading too much into it? The letter ends: “Once again, we’re pleased that XXXX has decided to apply for admission to Denison. We’re working hard to “sculpt” one of the best classes in the college’s history and she may well be part of that construction. We wish her well, and please tell her to look for a decision letter from us around the third week of March.”

I think it’s an everyone letter but I guess I could be wrong.

My D got the same letter. I also took it to be an everyone letter, asking them to wait until they hear from Denison before making their final decisions.

I would definitely say it’s an everyone letter. In fact, after reading the letter and seeing the number of applications Denison received, my daughter looked at it as a “we’re-softening-the-blow-now-you’ll-probably-be-waitlisted” letter. :)

I can see Denison’s concern about their applicants making a final decision before mid-March. My daughter has already heard from all her other schools, so naturally, she’s a little more focused on them right now.

Nah, that’s a misread. The strongest and least strong applicants got same. Just saying, “Here’s the deal folks. Stay tuned, and know the competition for admission slots to DU, remains as always.”

They realize that collectively, their FA packages for strong students is superior to most, and that carries increasingly more weight these days of the shrinking dollar and escalating costs and consequent debt among the college bound.

I don’t believe there is anymore “reading between the DU lines” than that.

Denison told us that they will mail out the acceptance/denied letters on Friday, March 16, along with merit award notifications. No emails, just regular mail.

Mail? Poor kids!! Mine will be climbing the walls as our postal system in notoriously slow. Good Luck, all.
