I got a schoalrship from Denison. I really want to go to a liberal arts school and Michigan is all my parents are willing to pay for. I will probably take out 5000 in loans for the first year. Is Denison a better educational bargain compared to UMich?

Sorry, I don't know, but I'm interested in the answer. DS is considering Denison because he wants a good liberal arts college somewhat near home. What is Denison's reputation, especially if DS wants to pursue a law degree afterwards.

Denison used to have a party reputation, though I understand that academics have been ramped up and Greek life toned down in recent years. Also considered one of the nation's most beautiful campuses.

My son attends Denison; he is a sophomore. You will have a completely different experience at Denison than U Michigan. Better for some kids, maybe not for others, it depends what you like. If you enjoy a big sports scene - well, obviously Michigan is better. Also, Ann Arbor is much more of a college town than Granville.

Denison's classes are all small. My son's largest class in 2 years has been 25, his smallest 9. Classes are interactive - you are expected to participate, not just sit there taking notes. Obviously, there are no TAs. He did get a paying research this summer, but he was fortunate.

It is not any more of a party school than most of the other liberal arts schools. They shut down Greek housing several years ago, so no more frat houses anywhere. Students are required to live on campus all 4 years. There are on campus apartments for seniors.

Have you been to the Denison forum on here? There's lots of info there - I even have a link to some photos.

U Michigan is by faar a better school, i don't even know what dickinson is!

^ First of all, no one is talking about "dickinson."

Secondly, get used to the idea that some schools are better for some kids and other schools are better for other kids.
