I just received an offer to play my sport at Denison. I’m also expecting an offer from Oberlin. I’m wondering what the difference is regarding the life of an athlete at each school. I’m not a big partier, definitely not a bro, and I’m pretty quiet. Do the athletes generally live together in the same dorm? How do the other students at each school treat athletes? I’m not a dumb jock, nor am I a superstudent. I’m a good student who loves to play my sport, hang out, and play video games.
My kid spent time on each campus as a recruit. For what it’s worth, at Oberlin, he was told that one area of campus was where athletes clustered, as it was the quad nearest the athletic facilities. Denison didn’t seem to have that concentration of athletes in one area, probably because of the dorm structure, with freshman living on “West quad,” sophomores and juniors on “east quad” (which is all above the gym etc. so no need for athletes to cluster in any particular dorm), and most of the seniors in the senior apartments.
They are both great schools, I’d recommend choosing the school based on academic fit, opportunities in your academic and other areas of interest, plus comfort with the coach, teammates. Congrats, and good luck!
Heard Denison coach had complex method about the process. This from other coaches. What process did you use? Oberlin is very strong academics, active student body and incredible facilities.
@CarlosSpicy The OP did not specify what sport he/she is looking at, so I’m not sure what it might mean to say you’ve heard that the Denison coach had a “complex” method, since the OP could be looking at any number of sports.
@Midwestmomofboys Other posts indicate baseball…
@CarlosSpicy What do you mean by complex method?
