Why no messages here? This is a great little school!

It is a great little school. I think it's an hour from my home. My friend's sister goes here. Are you applyiny weenie?

My son has applied and been accepted. He really likes this school (and so do I). He has not made a final decision yet though.

my friend's sister got a 3/4 tuition there, so it was a pretty big incentive to attend

My son is waiting to hear? Wher you offered any scholarships. What are his stats? He loved the campus. He had spent some time there for a summer program. He really loved it.

sideways:
Yes, he got a nice scholarship. I won't post his stats on here (sorry), as they aren't mine to post! He likes Denison a lot, and I think there is a very good chance he'll end up there, but he will wait to hear from the rest of his schools before he decides. He will probably attend where he gets the best scholarship. Good luck to your son!

My daughter (junior in hs) is interested. I wish some current students would post about campus life.

I've sent you a private message.

Weenie....would you mind sharing with all of us your family's impressions of Denison..good, bad, etc

Thanks.

infopls:
Well, frankly, we originally only stopped there because we were on our way to Kenyon. But, really, almost the moment we got out of the car my son liked Denison. (And believe me, we did not get that impression from him at all our college visits!) It is really a very pretty campus. I like the fact that it is a residential college (all 4 years the kids live on campus) and the frats/sororities have been severely undermined there. Our tour guide was great (that always helps) and the emphasis really (and genuinely) seemed to be on their personnal approach; small classes, close relations with profs, active career placement office, etc. Students seemed slightly less preppy, rich kid, than some of the other schools he looked at (slightly...). My son interviewed there and they did a great job interviewing him. They continued to follow up with him via very personal emails, hand written notes and such. Several profs in the academic areas he was intested in also contacted him. He also likes the looks of their honors program. Overall, I will be very happy if he ends up there, but this type of school, for a number of reasons, is a very good match for my son. I know a small LAC (sort of in the middle of no where) might not work for some kids, but it is what my son wants. We are stuck in that financial aid no man's land where we won't qualify for aid, but can not swing $40K+ for college, so the generous scholarship he qualified for will be a big factor. Still, he will wait to hear from his other schools before he decides for sure. Good luck!

Thanks for taking time to reply....good luck to your son too.

I was very intersted in your (weenie) post because it closely matched our experience. My dtr. is set on attending a small LAC and we too are in the financial aid zone where we won't get aid, but can't pay the full fare at one of these schools. We are from Ky. and have focused primarily on Southern schools such as Rhodes, Sewanee and Centre. We recently visited Denison only b/c it offered a decent scholarship and we were in the area looking at another school.

My dtr. really enjoyed our visit and loved Granville. The people were great and the campus fit every criterion we had established, except, sadly its 450 miles from home. Is your son attending one of the weekend programs? Our dtr. is attending the March overnight. Denison now appears to be near the top of our list-not something I would have ever predicted 6 months ago.

I would be very interested in your assessment of Denison compared to others on your list and observations in general about this school from others.

Thanks.

weenie-I sent you a private message

We're going to look at Denison in a couple of weeks. Any suggestions? Also, congratulations to the administration for its efforts to undermine the frats and erase the party school image -- but have they been successful? Do kids go into Columbus ever? Is there a shuttle to get there?

I don't have any substantive suggestions but reiterate that we were favorably impressed by Denison. The school is in a very attractive (and presumably safe) small town, but only 5 minutes from the larger town of Newark which provides basic shopping, dining and lodging facilities. Columbus is only 30 minutes away and we were told that the airport and a very extensive mall are on the east side of town and thus even closer. It seems that there was a mention of some sort of transportation to Columbus.

It appears that the Greeks have been "toned down" and several of the houses (not now occupied by Greeks) have been restored and are very attractive. The admissions staff was very helpful as was our tour guide and we enjoyed our visit-Denison is near the top of our list.

"Is there a shuttle to get there?"

Yes, there is a shuttle to Columbus

The web site says there is no shuttle that there is a board to list rides needed. Are you sure there is one?

Perhaps there is shuttle to the airport on holidays? I feel like I heard that...

We just returned from a trip to Denison - and were very favorably impressed. The campus is beautiful and all the buildings are in very good condition. At this point, our son is planning to apply there. He's only got 3 schools on his list, however, and I'm wondering if any of you can suggest other schools that are similar to Denison. I think he's interested in a larger LAC or small university with students who have a pre-professional bent. He's planning to go into business - so the econ/business dept has to be decent and/or there needs to be a strong career planning office and internship program. I don't think he'd be comfortable at a conservative school or at a very far left one either. Left-leaning middle of the road. I've considered schools like Lehigh or Bucknell, but I think the greek scene would be a turnoff. Other schools that he's interested in are much larger - Big 10 universities with undergrad BBA programs. Grades are excellent, test scores are so-so.
