DENTAL EMERGENCY--need dentist near WUSTL

I'm hoping someone can give me the name of a dentist near Washington Univ in St. Louis, or at least reachable for my son, who needs to see a dentist right away.

Thanks for any help.

S should call his student health service and ask them. RA and others also may be able to help. S also can look on-line.

NSM has good suggestions, also I would post in the WashU forum and see whether anybody there can help.

I’m sorry you son is in this situation and hopes he gets some help soon.

Ask at the Health Service center. If referred by them, your son may be able to get an appointment ASAP.

Thanks everyone. I called student health and they gave the name of 4 dentists near campus, but won’t make a referral. I’m just hoping that someone can see him right away, because it seems like he might have an infection under a front tooth he injured while still in elementary school, had root canal on, and is capped.

Frustrating that he’s on his way to class now, instead of finding a dentist. I guess there’s not much I can do in terms of knocking some common sense into him.

Is there a dental college connected with the university? Just a suggestion.

Just found the link to WUSTL Dental School Urgent Care Clinic!!

I know waits are long, but this might be his best bet. I actually had all of my orthodontic work done at a Univ Dental Clinic many years ago; as a young teen I loved having handsome young dental students working on me!!

I love CC!! When my brain isn’t functioning, which is more often these days, there are so many other brains to help out.

If you need anything, [email=deanj@virginia.edu]let me know. I have family in St. Louis.

WUSTL no longer has a dental school…it closed about 10-15 years ago. It was also located near the med school, not near WUSTL’s main campus.

I would trust student health with the offices they gave you info about. It’s more likely that your son will see a dentist who’s relatively easy to get to.

I felt so stupid when my son pointed out to me that the link I emailed him was for the Univ of Washington dental school, not WUSTL. I didn’t even notice!

He did get in to see one of the dentists that student health listed, and has a very big problem and needs an oral surgeon. A front tooth that he injured during recess when he was in elementary school, 11 years ago, and subsequently had a root canal on and had capped, is fractured at the root and caused a massive infection. The dentist drained the nasty stuff and put him on antibiotics and we’ll try to find a good oral surgeon for the rest of what comes next.

I am a St. Louisan and live less than 4 miles from WUSTL. I have 2 suggestions for private dentists:
1.Wolken Dental Group
8888 Ladue Road, Suite 200 • Saint Louis, MO 63124 • (314) 727-6676
OR
2. Sheldon Dental
809 South Lindbergh Boulevard St Louis, MO 63131-2824 (314) 991-0103

Both groups are very highly regarded and located within 10 minutes of the campus. Wolken is closer and they are a family of dentists. Doxie Sheldon is my own personal dentist and a wonderful person. Either way your son will be well served.

Good luck.

martharap,
We cross-posted…and now I see your son needs an oral surgeon. I highly recommend Dr. Herbosa who has an office in the University Club Tower on Brentwood. Its also very close to the campus, and across the street from Galleria Mall.

Dr. Herbosa is a Harvard grad, extremely competent and gentle. He did an excellent job on my son’s wisdom teeth a few years ago. You can reach him at:
Monterubio & Herbosa - [Monterubio & Herbosa, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, P.C.](http://www.mhoms.com)
1034 S Brentwood Blvd # 1010, St Louis - (314) 721-1010

Please get him over to that oral surgeon as soon as possible! I’m not a dentist, but I think that infected post root canal teeth cannot be cured with antibiotics and he may need the tooth pulled (and a bridge made). I wish him as little pain as possible!

His root canal was 10 years ago! He will need to have the tooth pulled and get a dental implant, but I don’t think anything can be done until the infection is healed. I already know this process will take a long time and be very costly–especially without dental insurance.

Thank you Runmanstl; I’ve passed your info to my son.

Martha…I don’t believe he will have to wait until the infection is healed before getting the tooth pulled. On the contrary, getting the tooth pulled may be the only way to actually clear the infection. At any rate, the oral surgeon will know what to do and when.

Martharap,
He really doesn’t want to wait to get this under control. Infections can get nasty really fast.

Martha,
I hope it all works out for your son. I would urge you or your son to call in the morning for an appointment and stress to the staff the need to be seen quickly. They are very well-regarded here and have a busy practice, so you may have to be a little aggressive to get him in this week.
