My daughter has had tooth and gum pain for a couple of weeks. It is probably a wisdon tooth cause. We have made an appointment (in nyc) for 11/24 when she is home for Thanksgiving break, but she called today to say that she can't wait and needs a local dentist asap. She went to the Tulane Health Service. They gave her a generic list of dentists. She has called a few but had to leave messages and hasn't had any calls back. By any chance does anybody out there know a good dentist near school????

I’ll check with my D for suggestions ASAP.

Oh, this happened to me. One day one of my teeth just started falling apart. It turned out to be a baby tooth that never became an adult.

I went to Dr. Gottsegen. She did a fine job, and even showed me my tooth on a TV.

My D and I had a communication gap, so sorry this is slow getting to you. Here is the dentist used by one of the local ministry:

Kathrynn Sturm
Audubon Dental Group
6120 Magazine Street

Looks like she and Tolar are in the same group.

Thanks FC and others. She has an appt. with another dentist on Monday. Hopefully it won’t be too serious and she can be patched up until the break. Next worry: her roommate has mono. YIKES!

Never a dull moment.

I just wanted to give you an update. DD ended up seeing Dr. Elizabeth Riggs, a terrific dentist with an office very close to school. Dr. Riggs said DD needed 2 wisdom teeth extracted asap. She referred her to Dr. Robert Lane, oral surgeon, and the extractions were done yesterday. DD had some pain but is feeling much better now. Hang on to these names if your son or daughter has a need for NOLA dentistry. Thanks again to the CC folks who provided names. Much appreciated.

Glad everything turned out OK. Nothing like having a crisis like that in the middle of a semester! Hope it didn’t put her too far behind in class. Looks like a study filled Thanksgiving.

onceburnt,

My D seems to have the same problem yours did last fall - wisdom tooth pain that can’t wait. She has also been referred to Dr. Robert Lane (calling tomorrow morning to schedule an appt). Do you or your D have any advice?

Hi dfunckmom. Dr. Lane did a great job. But i sent you a private message with a few details.

D saw Dr. Lane this morning and as we suspected, she needs teeth extracted ASAP. She is having the procedure on Thursday - picking up pain meds and antibiotics from the pharmacy today (thanks onceburnt for that suggestion). Hoping she will recover quickly and not miss too much classtime!

Whoa extracted? Are they cracked or does she jsut need a root canal? Can the save the tooth?

Sorry your dd has to go through this. Admire the Thursday idea though as it is likely by Monday she will be recovered–won’t have missed too many classes. By the way, how many teeth are being removed?

jym - I suspect they are talking wisdom teeth?

It is indeed wisdom teeth - and D will be having 4 removed this Thursday. She inists that there is one class she MUST attend on Friday. I asked if she realized that she will be 1.) swollen, 2.) in pain, and 3.) high on pain killers.

Hi dfunckmom. Just wanted to check to see how your daughter’s wisdom teeth removal went yesterday. I hope she is OK.

D is doing really well, thanks for asking! Not too much swelling, and she did go to her class this afternoon! (she confessed that taking notes on Neantertal jaw and nasal structure while under the influence of pain meds, WAS more challenging than she anticipated) I dropped her off AND picked her up in front of the building, but I still can’t believe she felt well enough to go at all.
