Dentistry vs. Law

Which is more safe? I've heard doctors get shafted by malpractice lawsuits while doctors live comfortably. I'm also interested in Law but I'm worried about the debt and the insecurities regarding graduating from the top or bottom of you're class. What I guess I'm asking is, any current lawyers or future lawyers, do you like your career and would you choose it again, or would you go into something SAFE like Dentistry or Accounting?

Law and Dentistry generally attract different types of people. Going to Dental School or Law School are huge decisions, they’re expensive, time-consuming and difficult, so I reccommend you volunteer at a Dentist office or get an internship at a Law firm to see what working as a dentist or lawyer is actually like.

For Dentistry, you need to take preHealth classes in college, which are competitive. If you excel in science and are interested in healthcare, this would be the better choice. You also have to take the DAT before applying to Dental school. You can major in whatever you want but Bio and Chem are the typical pre-dental majors.
For Law there are no required courses, you just take the LSAT and apply. These students generally major in Liberal Arts and have strong reading, writing and analytical skills.

Both fields are important and will always be in demand, and can pay well. I think Law is more diverse than Dentistry; there are so many fields of Law which come with different lifestyles and job descriptions and one may appeal to you more. Here’s a site which lists many fields of Law and gives a brief description: [Types of Law](<a href=“Types of Law”>Types of Law) Don’t worry about the type of Law you want until you get to Law school though.

I’m guessing you just started college so give yourself time to make this serious decision, and definitely volunteer or get an internship. Also, many pre-Dental students do poorly in their pre-Health classes so if you’re not good at science that will become apparent pretty quick. But really go with whatever you’re more interested in, whether it’s Law, Dentistry or Accounting…it sounds like your interests are all over the place right now. Please don’t pick something just to be “safe” because you’ll likely spend the rest of your life doing whatever you pick.
