Hi! Does anyone have any experience with Denver/Lamont School of Music, particularly in the Jazz and Commercial Music program? Did anyone do a prescreen for them? Any year really, but also this year?
Son submitted his prescreen (guitar) for there, so we are waiting. I just thought I'd see if anyone else was also considering them this year or had any experiences from years past. Thanks!

Whenever I see these posts, I always urge the poster to CALL! A few years ago, my son never got an audition email he was meant to receive (not from Lamont, though). Thank goodness we called.

Not worth taking chances.

Oh, sorry. We aren’t having problems - didn’t mean to imply we were. I was just curious if anyone else was doing Lamont. Sort of “are we sharing this experience” with anyone else… I will call if we don’t hear before the audition dates begin, but their deadline for prescreens was just yesterday, so I’m not expecting anything yet. Sorry for any confusion.

My D considered Lamont for Jazz & Commercial Music (Voice) but decided against it mostly because of distance. The facilities there are amazing and the faculty was very impressive. Plus DU is a great school all around with a beautiful campus. We met a number of the current Jazz student body, mostly singers, but their professionalism and maturity was astounding. We saw them do a gig at a local jazz club and came away very impressed. I was a little sad when she took Lamont out of the running.

Good luck with everything!

Gotcha, shellybean. My son didn’t apply to Lamont (he wanted to be in NY, LA or Boston, preferably LA, where he is, and where I am for that matter), but has a good friend (a drummer, jazz and contemporary) who is a senior there.

Thanks!
Son got the call yesterday - he made it through the prescreen. His reaction: “Well, I officially don’t suck at jazz”… What an odd child. Oh well. We are very happy, to say the least. Now to get ready for auditions!

Just wanted to say congrats to your son!

Thank you!
