Can anyone tell me anything about the University of Denver?

good school; one of my friends who got the Boetcher Scholarship (the top/most prestigious/most beneficial scholarship in the state of Colorado) is going there on it and I believe he enjoys it.

What is the social life like? Is there a balance between studying and partying? How are the schools academics percieved?

Thanks

Denver is WAY TOO EXPENSIVE!!! It's an okay school, especially when it comes to business or international relations (and you're say, stuck in Colorado). The Boettcher Scholarship that the other poster was talking about is a full ride to any Colorado school, which is why...you know, it's enjoyable.

I don't know how the social life is...personally, although there are some greeks there, so I'm sure there's something. But, it's not known for it's parties...so I'm sure there's more studying going on.

DU's academics are okaaaay...but...I don't know, I'm more of a fan of CU, but that's because I'm in-state and CU is as good (or better than DU) for a much fairer price.

I heard that DU was more of a party school, but maybe that's not totally true. In my opinion, Colorado College is the best school in Colorado (or any state in that general vicinity).

One of my best friends goes to DU.
She loves it.
For the record, DU has higher admission standards than CU, which was disgraced as one of the biggest party school by a major college ranker.

Thanks for the responses.

My son is going to the Pioneer Days weekend in early March,

higher admission standards meaning.... a lower acceptance rate? Or is DU's average standardized test scores higher?

U of Denver:
82% accept. rate
530-630 SAT Verbal
530-640 SAT Math
23-28 ACT

U Colorado:
88% accept. rate
520-630 SAT Verbal
540-650 SAT Math
23-28 ACT

Scores are from the middle 50% of attending freshman. Traditionally public schools have higher acceptance rates than private schools, so IMO they are pretty even.

Yeah, pretty even...'though it is true CU-Boulder has had a couple of years (recently) as one of the top party schools according to some major college rankings...

I would agree with the above poster, though, that CC (Colorado College) is the top-tier school in the area.

CU had a problem a few years ago, but since then they are really, really cracking down! Anyways, it's a great laid back but intellectual community and Boulder is amazing!!!

Simply, people move to Colorado to live in places like Boulder, not Denver. The school IS BETTER FOR THE PRICE, that's the big thing!

But, it's all a personal choice.
