department questions

Has anyone here had experience with the Linguistics or International Relations departments at UGA? I'd really appreciate some info!

Not sure about Linguistics, but the International Affairs program is very solid. It's got a strong core of classes (INTL 1100, INTL 3200, and INTL 3300) that give everyone a solid overview of the major theories and methods, and then students can choose at least two concentrations in one of the following: Int'l Relations, Comparative Politics, Community, Prosperity, or Security. The professors are, overall, very good and the upper level classes can be challenging. There are also a good number of additional research opportunities available through some of the Centers on campus like GLOBIS and CITS (search the website for more info). I would say it's definitely one of the stronger departments on campus and if you choose your professors wisely it can be quite an experience.

I hear its tough getting classes at UGA for INTA. I still think Tech has a superior program overall.

I was just going to start a thread about UGA and IR... hmm... glad it's a solid program. How are internships and study abroad, and how does it compare to other schools like UWisconsin, Ohio State or American ?
btw Gtech for IR ?

I would agree. International Affairs/Relations is a good field here. I was a political science major, but took several international affairs classes and was very impressed. There are certainly many study abroad opportunities in international affairs (check the SPIA) website. I can't really comment how it stacks up with Wisconsin, Ohio State, and American. If you want the overall college experience, I would seriously consider Wisconsin, Ohio State, and UGA.
