Does anyone have experience with department scholarships, specifically engineering? With the change in OOS scholarships for the new admissions cycle Auburn is still $22k for students with pretty darn good stats. While the 2/3 tuition is certainly a help, it’s not going to be enough to bring my student OOS. Any chance this number is going to get any any lower via department scholarships?

Kindly, please don’t respond and tell us to just go to Alabama. We are already aware of their merit aid. We are obviously interested in finding out abut Auburn or I wouldn’t be asking. :)

I don’t know about the Engineering Department, but I know that COSAM (science and math) gave out $2500 per year for non-NMF with high stats. I think it included a minimum 3.5 GPA requirement.

Thanks for your response. It’s sincerely appreciated. We are just trying to get an idea of what we ‘might’ be able to expect, knowing that every situation is different.
If engineering offered something similar my student would qualify. No NMF, but the GPA rocks and SATs are quite good.

We we visited we asked tha Dean of Engineering about this scholarships. He said that these scholarships are very competitive, need to have a ~34 ACT to have excellents chances on getting one. Each department has scholarships available. For Chem Eng for example you need to fill out a separate application…Don’t know excatly how much are those…

BlueIguana - Last year we were in the same position as you with our daughter to learn maximum scholarship opportunities at Auburn for our DD. I inquired from our local Auburn admissions advisor who supplied the appropriate information for departmental scholarships. Here’s the link to find the one in your area - [Inquire About Auburn - Recruitment Staff](http://www.auburn.edu/admissions/inquire/staff/recruitment/)
The admissions advisor wants your bright student to consider Auburn and my experience has been they are very helpful.

Thanks for your post MetroAtlantaDad-
S2 has the opportunity to meet with his regional rep in a couple of weeks. We were able to contact his GC and have his transcript sent. We thought that if the regional rep had the transcript they would be more likely to discuss scholarships he was a good candidate for. It’s one thing for a student to say ‘I have a GPA of X.X.’, however until you see it on the transcript that’s not always the case. He’ll take his resume. I’m sure S2 will do fine. He’s interning this summer and went through a decent interview process. I also hope the representative can give S2 some idea of what Auburn can offer him, other than what he’s seen and read online. We have not been able to make the trip yet.
Thanks again for your post.
