Hey all!
Let’s post here when our letters arrive!
Thanks
DePaul Portal is now updated!
@Tenzira15 Where do you look? What is different? I just checked my portal and checked all the tabs and nothing seems to be different. Maybe they don’t all get updated at once?
@Decomfortable yeah, maybe so, but according to my portal I have been accepted. They are asking for a tuition deposit, but nothing is for sure until I get a letter in the mail.
@Tenzira15 Does it tell you specifically if you got into the Theatre School?
@Decomfortable Yes
For me, if you go under Main Menu > Self Service > Admission > Next Steps it says:
“Congratulations! We are pleased to inform you that you have been admitted to DePaul University for the term and program of study listed below. Please submit your Admitted Student Response by selecting the “accept/decline” button.”
The program of study is listed as “Undergraduate Theater” so I don’t know if this means acting, or just the theater school in general? They don’t have a “theater” degree.
It has the same message for me, but I am assuming I was accepting for acting since that’s the only program I applied for.
For reference, it says the same for me, but I applied to the Theatre Arts degree with a Directing concentration! So, I assume “undergraduate theater” covers the whole department.
Same here and I applied theatre management. Was really confused when I first checked the portal but got the letter 20 minutes later!
Hi everyone. Long time lurker first time posting. However, this question really needs to be pointed out. I too checked the portal today and my to-do changed to immunizations and have all the same “acceptance” welcome letter as well. However, unlike from what I’ve seen in past years their seems to be a lot more people posting “acceptances” than per usual for a “top” ranking program that only lets in 32 out of 950 applicants. Has anyone who recieved notice online also recieved a mailed copy? This seems for too good to be true.
Best
Same, haven’t heard of a single rejection yet. I’m thinking that this may be a glitch or something. Hopefully not, but it does seem too good to be true.
NO because many posting are from are all areas of the theatre dept. AND the waitlist letters come and then the rejections via mail. I only see 4 acceptances to acting if I am correct.
Well, crossing my fingers for everyone and hoping like crazy this is a time where my skepticism is dead wrong.
@newsomert, doesn’t DePaul aim to enroll an acting class of 32? Unless their yield is 100% (and I’m pretty sure it isn’t), they are admitting a larger number. Your skepticism may still be right…just wanted to clarify the difference between eventual class size and number of actual admitted students.
From what I’ve researched they accept exactly 32 then they have a wait-list. They don’t accept more than they are going to let in. Also “larger” is only relative to say a few of the other schools that let in less than 20. If tradition repeats itself we have a lot more on CC posting acceptances than ever before. I mean it usually seems that CC applicants are less than what 1/3 of the applicant pool? This is a rather small community and usually consist of the same usual suspects posting through the years. In the past for any of the top tier schools their is only a handful of acceptances posted here and those are all usually posted few and far between.
DePaul accepts 32 students for the BFA acting. Then has a active waiting list of appox the same amount. They were very clear that they do not accept more than that and if it turns out to be a smaller class, so be it. Also, you have to remember that the posts here - there are people posting acceptances from different programs (theatre costume, managment, directing and such not)
If your portal has not changed, you are either wait listed or rejected, but from what seems clear in the past, both are done via letter and not the portal. The only thing that seems clear is that those that are accepted can see a change on their portal asking for immunizations and then actual navagation to admittion. It’s not real straight forward but you have to navagate closely. So with all that said, it really is not that surprizaing to see many 4 BFA theatre acceptances (maybe?) and then scattered acceptances of othere programs within the theatre department.
@newsomert and @boom22 Thank you for the clarifications. It helps tremendously. My daughter was admitted into the BFA in Costume Design and from what Nan mentioned during interviews, she is one of 4 accepted into the program this year. What is the total enrollment of the theater school for the fall? Does anyone know? I’m curious.
Vogelpitts- Congrats to dyour D! Looks like they have many programs offered
(see below)
I have no idea of the numbers for each program (except for BFA Acting)
Design/Technology
Bachelor of Fine Arts in Costume Design, Costume Technology, Lighting Design, Scenic Design, Sound Design, Stage Management, and Theatre Technology
Performance
Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting
Master of Fine Arts in Acting and Directing
Theatre Studies
Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dramaturgy/Criticism, Playwriting, Theatre Arts (with possible concentrations in Directing and Theatre for Young Audiences), and Theatre Management
Master of Fine Arts in Arts Leadership
So to see people posting from possible departments is not surprizing considering they deliver their wait lists
and rejections via snail mail. And appears to be only acceptances via portal (with navagation) and snail mail.
Quoted from their website:
"The ratio varies from program to program. We have about 1600 applicants each year and we accept a total of 106 incoming students - 92 new BFAs and 14 new MFAs. Different programs have different ratios. For example, we have about 950 applicants each year to the BFA Acting program and accept 32. Most Design/Technical areas have capacities of about 4 or 5 per program. The Theatre Studies department (including dramaturgy/criticism, playwriting, theatre arts, and theatre management) has a combined total incoming class of 30. We accept 10 students into the MFA Acting program, and 2 students into each of the MFA Arts Leadership and MFA Directing programs. "
