I wanted to know, if anyone knew off-hand, how well DePaul's Communication program is?
I want to Major in Journalism, and i want to stay in Chicago,
And i wouldn't get into Northwestern or U of C, and my brother goes to Loyola and i'm just not that...into it.
And so that sort of leaves me with DePaul, but i know that if you aren't doing theatre or business, it's kind of mediocre.
So i was wondering, does anyone know anything about their communications program?
...I would either transfer to Northwestern when i could, or go there(or another school....?) for graduate school, but for the basic, four-year bachelors, how is it?

And second part of the question-
People keep telling me that you don't need to major in journalism for your bachelors, that you could/should major in writing, or political science, or anthropology, depending on the type of journalism you would want to do...
Any opinions? true/false?

You're mis-informed about DePaul's communications department. While it is true that the major is in "communication" they have an excellent journalism concentration as part of the major: ( see http://communication.depaul.edu/degreeprograms/ba/newcurriculum/ ) The program has a VERY GOOD reputation and does an excellent job of helping students line up internships. It really is a fine choice for communications/journalism. One plus with DePaul is the possibility of a 5 year BA/MA in Communications, as well as the chance to take some of their excellent business courses which can lead to different career opportunities with the communications/journalism degree. I'm a working journalist, and I have been impressed with what I've seen of DePaul's program.

Another option, if it's not too far out of the city, would possibly be Lake Forest which has a solid communications major as well.

I knew DePaul did a 5-year B.A/M.A, but i wasn't aware they offered it for comm.(for some reason i thought it was only film...which doesn't really make sense...)

Thanks so much, though. That was a bit of a boost of confidence!
