Depaul or Loyola Chicago?

I've asked this several times before, but come March 1st I have to make a final decision. Which one should I choose? I can't differentiate between the two. BTW I'm looking for the one with the most prestige and less liberal arts focus.

wow! that's a great way to make a decision that could impact the rest of your life!

Neither has prestige. I would say that DePaul is better known nationally (I think, from being rated as having the happiest students several years ago). If you look strictly at USNWR, Loyola is in the top 120 (112 to be exact) and DePaul is not.

I agree gianscolere1 ^^^^

When I was looking for colleges to apply to, DePaul and Loyola of Chicago seemed similiar from what I read on colleges review sites and in info books. The only difference that jumped out at me was that one is ran by the Jesuits and the other by the Vincentians. I ended up applying to DePaul though because it had a certain feel to it that I didn't get from Loyola. Now, I haven't visited yet but I've been good at feeling out other colleges that I applied to before actually visiting them. Plus it offers better opportunities for my major interests. However, here are somethings that I've heard:

-Loyola is better for sciences and pre med than DePaul. I know DePaul definately has a liberal arts focused core and is known more for theatre, music, and other non-sciency majors. Business is also big at DePaul.

I have a friend whose first choice is Loyola. When she visited she loved it but complained that it wasn't as diverse as she would've liked . On the other hand another friend, who also applied to DePaul, said that it was very diverse when she visited. In fact DePaul was ranked the #1 most diverse school on Princeton Review.

-Loyola supposedly has more of a campus feel, while DePaul is very connected to the city. DePaul also owns lofts and townhouses within the Lincoln Park campus, which gives upperclassmen even more of the urban living experience. The main Loyola campus is supposedly in a less exciting area (never been to either one, so I don't know. Ask in a few weeks.)

Have you visited each university yet? It also depends on what campus you'll be on since, if I understand correctly Loyola has multiple campuses like DePaul.

I have a friend at Depaul and a friend at Loyola Chicago...i would probably go forth and say (for the rankings) Loyola Chicago has a better rep and higher rankings but it's so far down the list that prestige is not a factor. Both of my friends are happy and come to find out, LC and DU share a university center where kids from LC, DU and Columbia College live in apartments and can meet. The urban schools in Chicago are VERY close.

oh yea, i would probably choose Loyola Chicago..but that's just me.

i currently attend depaul and i did apply for loyola but the diversity at Depaul is amazing.... and i just love the overall atmosphere.... i encourage you to go visit both campus and see what you like. you will know once you step foot on campus
