My daughter has narrowed down her choices to Depaul and St. Louis University. She is planning on majoring in psychology and going on to graduate school. Cost and distance from home is about the same for both schools. We've visited both twice and she is having a hard time deciding. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I started a post about SLU awhile ago. I think/hope this will link to it. My D is only a jr., but she liked much about DePaul. She didn't like the quarter schedule though so it's off her list.

SLU is underrated. Fine programs. Pre-med is strong, for example.

I'd do SLU. It's slightly better academically and has more of a campus feel (DePaul has a really large commuter population).

Thanks! I think she prefers the idea of living in Chicago and all of the opportunities but likes SLU as a school. I'll be so glad when she just decides.

DePaul has an excellent reputation in Chicago, especially for accounting and business. Its location can't be beat. SLU (and another school that is very like SLU, Marquette in Milwaukee) struggle with the fact that their campuses abut high crime areas. That and the fact that Milwaukee and St. Louis just aren't Chicago. Both Marquette and SLU have more of the residential feel, with almost all freshmen living on campus, and are probably better academically than DePaul.

Disclosure: I went to DePaul many moons ago and even then LOVED, LOVED, LOVED going to school in Lincoln Park. DePaul did not have the health science programs that my D wanted. She was accepted with good merit money at both SLU and Marquette and has chosen Marquette.

I just re-read your OP and see her interest is in psychology. I don't think there is an advantage for either DePaul or SLU in that area. There are many fine graduate schools in Chicago she could consider after DePaul -- Northwestern, UIC, U of Chicago, Loyola. Make sure she understands that not everyone lives on campus at DePaul and that the quarter system can be brutal -- lots more papers to write.
