I know that Depaul's program is straight acting and not musical theatre, but some kind folks in the parents forum advise me that my best chance of getting some responses may be in the MT forum. So , here goes.

D2 is a rising hs Junior. She is heavily involved in hs theatre plus a little work in community theatre. She is a 4.0 unweighted, 17th in a class of 350, 192 on sophomore PSAT, typical ECs and varsity tennis. She believes she wants to purse theatre/acting as a college major and Depaul is her early #1 choice.

Here are the questions:
1) What is this "cut policy" at DePaul I have been reading about?
2) Since Depaul is a conservatory program, can she still qualify for merit awards based on her grades/scores/ECs?
3) Chances for merit awards are greater with early admit., but theatre majors can not apply for early admit. due to auditions. True?
4) Please provide any additional information/advice regarding either Depaul or D2s general situation.

I realize these questions may be best answered by an admissions counselor, but I thought I would try for the "spinless" answers here, first. Thanks for the help.

As I suggested to you on the Parent Forum, do a search of threads/posts about DePaul's theater program here on the MT Forum (also on the long Theater/Drama Colleges threads in the Arts Majors Forum).

As I mentioned to you earlier, there was much discussion of DePaul's cut policy in one thread about DePaul here, earlier this year. As a starting point, here is the link to that thread:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=225346&highlight=DePaul

Here is another thread:
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=223433

Also, the following forum is all about DePaul with many threads/topics but is not specific to the theater program:

We were impressed with the program at DePaul when we visited several years ago; however, my son decided he wanted MT and didn't apply / audition.

I don't know the answers to most of your questions. To read about a "cut policy" - what it means - go to the FAQ Link, click into Frequently Asked Questions - then on the left hand bar, choose "Cut Policy". Apparently DePaul is one of the few schools that still does have a cut policy.

<< Since Depaul is a conservatory program, can she still qualify for merit awards based on her grades/scores/ECs? >>

According to the Theatre School's admissions director, absolutely. In fact, my D and I were told that if a student admitted to the Theatre School had a 3.5 GPA and SAT scores of 1220 or better (CR and math), that student could pretty much count on getting a merit scholarship of between $8k and $12K per year.

3) Chances for merit awards are greater with early admit., but theatre majors can not apply for early admit. due to auditions. True?

True, but see my answer to your previous question.

Good luck!
