I currently attend DePaul University in Chicago, first year here. I am a Finance major, possibly thinking about Economics as well. I know the program is pretty good in Chicago, due to its good location. But man this school is expensive! I should've thought about it a long time ago but its too late now. My question was how does DePaul compare to UIC? I know its private vs public, but does it make that big of a difference? If I were to transfer to UIC it would cost me about $12,000 a year, compared to DePaul $26,000. What would you guys recommend? Any help would be appreciated thanks!

UIC's finance/business program is awesome. I was thinking about applying, but I rather spend 24k a year on Kelley. I would say transfer to UIC immediately, just accept your losses at DePaul. Still to this day, I wonder why Illinois schools are so expensive...

UIC (Illinois-Chicago) is a fine school.
Obviously, DePaul and Loyola attract better companies to campus, but you would not be at a disadvantage.

UIC attracts the same companies to campus as the other schools. In terms of undergraduate business schools, UIC's has the best rankings overall. You might still be able to apply for the Spring semester.

For their career fairs, sure, but on-campus info sessions and speakers at club events? Loyola and DePaul's business programs offer greater access to recruiters because of their downtown locations and active student bodies.

And, actually, no, UIC does not have the best ranking. Loyola is a Tier 1/2 school. DePaul and UIC in the same Tier 3. For incoming SAT/ACTs, Loyola is above both and DePaul and UIC are similar. Business Weeks ranks Loyola in their top 100 and features DePaul as one of its ranked schools and does not mention of UIC.
However, each of the three schools have similar assessment scores by US News for their business programs. Fact of the matter, the cream rises to the top. You will not be disadvantaged by attending UIC. It may take some extra effort, but not much.

interesting I'm considering attending all three of those universities for business also I'm hoping for Loyola right now ...

If you do attend Loyola, take Khoshabe for intermediate economics. Based on your poster name, I think you'll appreciate how he breaks away from theory to address current issues in business and more inane topics such as the demographic profiles of people in certain business positions.

Speaking from experience, (I attended Depaul and UIC for my MBA) I would choice UIC over Depaul. This is based on time and money spent. I had to pay tuition out of pocket.

I hate to tell you but DePaul and UIC don’t really compare, DePaul is a top 50 school #40 exactly. Loyola and UIC aren’t even in the top 100 they come in at #103 and #105 not to mention DePaul is number 3 for return on investment out of all privates.

As far as finance goes I know NIU is #5 in financial management if you are headed in that direction, It’s cheap and isn’t far from your area. Both are good schools in my opinion when we hire people candidates from DePaul come before UIC candidates.

Consider average starting salary from UIC is 40k while average starting salary from DePaul is 55k.

In my opinion DePaul is just an overall better B-school than Loyola and UIC
