Hi All,

So I also wanted to start a new thread about DePaul University School of Music (Chicago) as well. Will any of you be there this weekend? I have an audition this Sunday and for some reason I am kind of nervous about it (Like more nervous than I was when I had to audition for Indiana University). I think over all all of this auditioning has taken a toll on me. I can't wait till it's all over, and I hope my next worry will be trying to figure out which school to go to. (That's of course if they ALL accept me which I am praying that they do).

For those that have already audition at DePaul, what are your thots?

My D auditioned there 4 years ago. At that time, we both thought it was the
most "comfortable" audition she had. (compared to IU, Oberlin et al). They even had the accompanist available for her warm up. Some ear training questions and a brief interview followed. One thing that was unusual, they invited me to sit in on the audition and interview. Im not sure if this is still the norm there but it was our experience. We loved the campus, its location and the people. Enjoy yourself in Chicago, we had a blast.
She ultimately decided not to go because she had a better offer elsewhere.

Thanks musica- At least now I know what to look froward to. My audition is this afternoon at three, and I can't wait till it's over. I love singing and all, but the wait right before it really stresses me out at times. It's amazing that they have an accompanist there to warm you up. I never heard of this before. That is VERY unusual that they ask you to sit in while she auditioned, I have never heard of that either. I guess each school is different. I heard DePaul has an excellent music program, so lets see if I can add this to my list. I sure hope so!

My son has a former quartet partner, a conservatory level violinist who chose DePaul over several stand alone conservatories. He is very happy there and speaks extremely well of the instrumental program and the quality of his peers.

Thanks Violadad....So today was my audition and I think I did a pretty good job.

Muisca- You were right on it, They did have an accompanist there for me to practice with right before I had to go in and sing. This was kind of odd to me since all the other schools I auditioned for didn't offer this option. I performed my two songs, did some did my sight reading, and then had my interview. The interview was VERY interesting, I was sitting right in front of the ENTIRE voice faculty It was around 12 people answering all of their questions. (What do you see yourself doing in 10 years, What are your goals, what's your favorite opera, Why DePaul...yadda yadda..yadda...

Okay now the downfall.....It was cold as HECK!!!!! It's like negative 15 degrees now I swear I felt as if I got frost bite just from walking from the parking lot to the Music Bldg.

University of Arizona, and Arizona State was looking SOOOO much better to me today *I audition to those schools the weekend before the super bowl was there, and it was like in the Mid 70's....Sunny...And Beautiful! I have lived in the Chicago -Land area all my life, and I tell ya, this weather is starting to get to me. So I will really have to think about that when making my final decision IF and only IF I get accepted into DePaul.

Thanks everyone for your input, 5 down, and just two more to go. This Friday I will be trailing it up to good ole Iowa.

ASU has some Great teachers right now. But remember, Tempes temperatures in August are as extreme as Chicagos temperatures in February!
