Hi! I was accepted into Marymount Manhattans BFA Theatre program and waitlisted for DePauls Theatre program. I received $12,000 a year in merit scholarships for Marymount Manhattan and will ask for money if I am taken off DePauls waitlist. They say that there is a good chance of getting off of the waitlist. However, I can’t decide which one I like more! Does anyone know anything about the theater programs/Which one is better? Any info/advice about either of the programs will help!! Thank you!!
I am also waitlisted for Depaul’s theatre arts program and know quite a bit about it if you have any questions. I’ve seen several shows there and have a ton of friends in the program.
Thanks! Do you know if they get opportunities after college, not in Chicago?
They mainly make connections with theatre in Chicago because that’s such a huge part of their identity, but they have opportunities to make connections outside of Chicago, for example in New York and LA as well.
I wold not waste energy on hypothetical choices For now it seems that your best option is to deposit at the school you have been accepted at and take the waitilist spot at DePaul. There is only a decision to be made IF you get into DePaul and IF DePaul turns out to be affordable.
@chitheatrekid Could you fill me in on your knowledge of DePaul? I have been accepted to the BFA Acting program and am overwhelmingly excited, and would like to absorb any and everything about the school. Regarding the intensity and quality of the training, the city, and the acting program as a whole. As well as rehearsal process for shows, class room work, etc. As I said before, any and everything helps.
@Ahreonholly from what I understand, the training is extremely intense and they are held to a very strict standard. As far as rehearsal processes and class room work, I only know very little. I’ve seen shows there and they’ve been some of the best college shows I’ve ever seen. The students enjoy going there and there is a sense of community which is something that drew me to DePaul initially. I’ve heard complaints about the program too, its all up to personal preference.
For anyone else looking in on this conversation after the fact, DePaul doesn’t do MT. Their acting program is up there with the best. I get the impression MaryMount is stronger in MT but very good in both. So it depends what you are looking for.
Do you mind posting the total cost of attendance for each? These are expensive schools in high cost of living areas…and theatre is not the most high paying field.
My estimate for DePaul w Tuition, Housing & Meal plan is roughly $51,500 and for Marymount Tuition, Room & Board is roughly $44,900. But honestly, you need to do the Net Price Calculators and see what your S or D might receive from each school. And then wait and see what is actually offered. But I can tell you that for AFTER college, it is much cheaper to live in Chicago than New York City.
