DePaul vs. Northwestern

I'm a junior in high school from Illinois and I can't decide if Northwestern or DePaul would be a better fit for me (or if it would even be possible to be admitted to NU). I'm currently ranked 3rd in my class (out of 400). I'm predicted to get a 28-32 on my ACT, although hopefully that'll improve after practicing and studying for it. I'm taking 3 APs this year (which is as many as one can take in my high school, except for 4 students in an engineering program), and I've had straight A's all through high school thus far. My ECs aren't bad; 3 (will have 4) years of tennis, french club, 3 years of DCP/SAFE (promoting substance-free teens), 3 years of volunteering at a local museum, and I work part-time in a law office.

I'm not exactly sure what I want to do, but it'll probably something along the lines of communication, journalism, marketing, etc.

Thanks!

Hi there Amanda1,

My name is Cassie Snyder and am the Communications Intern for the Office of Admission at DePaul University. I cannot speak on the behalf of Northwestern, but I can say that you should not worry about whether your scores a certain benchmark in terms of academics. DePaul’s counselors review applicants on a holistic approach, meaning that they don’t look for specific numbers, but rather look at the WHOLE applicant (ie. whether you held a job outside of school, grade trends from freshman to senior year, extra-curricular activities, essays).

And as far as you looking into majoring in either comunications, marketing or journalism, I am currently majoring in Communications and Media as well as minoring in Journalism. The staff and professors in those areas for DePaul are absolutely fantastic, and do a great job of using the city of Chicago as a learning tool for their lessons and homework. One of my favorite assignments for journalism so far has been when our teacher let us go somewhere in the city downtown during class time, and interview different people walking around. The city of Chicago is a great tool and resource for the College of Communication and all of the students as well!

Hope that helps clarify some things! Please let me know of any other questions you might have.
