Im going to be a freshman and I was accepted to Depaul business and University of Illinois UC Division of General Studies. To transfer to business at U of I, I have to wait until may and try to transfer if that doesn't work out, then I cannot apply for business at that school again. I want to go to business but I do not know what to do. For U of I, I have to pay 15,000 per year including housing and for Depaul I have to pay 12,000 per year excluding housing (living at home). What should I do? Is U of I much better than Depaul in business?

U of I has been #1 in accounting in the past, it’s now #2 usually. If that’s what you want, you should go there and work very hard. I know 10 years ago or so there was an option for Finance in the LAS college. At least that’s what I remember.

is depaul is really bad in the business field?

Depaul isn’t bad in business, but it definitely holds less weight nationally. Are you planning on going for a general business degree, or are you gunning for something more specific? U of I is always ranked within the top 3 spots for accounting, so its going to have national recognition for that. Depaul is a good choice too, but you will probably have a harder time getting positions outside of Chicago or the Midwest. If you can, I would say try for U of I, and transfer to Depaul if that falls through. Neither one is a terrible choice.

But the thing is that im not enrolled in U of I business yet and I heard it is really hard to get into. But at Depaul I already am. Does anyone have any experience or more advice to give me? And I heard it is really hard to get into U of I business.

And I am planning on staying in the Chicago area. Can someone give me more advice?

Based on your writing ability I would advise staying at Depaul. Sorry, don’t mean to be rude, I just want to be realistic with you.

That’s not a very good reason for advice. It’s a post in an online forum, not a formal essay.

Anyway, transferring into U of I business is definitely achievable. Just know that you would have to work harder at the U of I than Depaul, but the job opportunities at the U of I would make it all worth it. But if you’re really that unsure, take the safe route and go to Depaul.

True, maybe he’s posting from a blackberry or something? I just don’t think anyone should go to college who can’t write above a 10th grade level. They should learn a trade.

I went to Depaul, it is a good school. Business it can be very lucrative for a couple of reasons: you are in the Chicago Loop, top accounting and finance firms recruit from Depaul, and Depaul allows many varied degree options meaning it is quite easy to receive a double major. UIUC is also very good, most likely it will have better placement. Trading/ Option firms will recruit more heavily from Big Ten schools than non.

At DePaul you will have a professor teaching almost every class. Very few have TAs. DePaul is education driven not research driven. UIUC is the opposite.

Hopefully, you will read this even though your post was from 2010. I find your posts so amusing and am curious to find out if you are joking or serious, because your comments are hilarious, if they are a joke. If you are serious, your comments seem like you need to bash others in an attempt to feed your own ego. I just visited The University of Texas at Austin, and will be sure to check out the comedy acts next time.

What do you need as a high school student to get into U of I business?
