How do you plan to pay out of state tuition/room/board/fees/expenses? The costs of attending college as an out of state student are THOUSANDS of dollars more than for instate. In addition, if you are attending a public university, the likelihood of you getting need based aid to cover your costs is EXTREMELY low as these schools don’t guarantee to meet your full need AND they don’t offer a bonus in financial aid to cover the difference between out of state and instate costs.

As Kelsmom pointed out, if your EFC really is $0…you would get the $5200 or so Pell Grant and a $5500 Stafford loan. That will NOT cover the costs of attending an out of state public university in Florida…or anywhere else I can think of…the costs of tuition/room/board would exceed that amount for IN state students.

Please…make sure you have a plan for paying for college. Don’t just assume that the money will miraculously appear from somewhere. It won’t. Federally funded need based aid has limits. Public universities do not have deep pockets for institutional aid to supplement the federally funded need based aid.

Be realistic in your college search.
