I have a child. His father makes more money than I do and therefore gets to claim him on his taxes every year. We all live together, but me and my son's father are not married. Would I be able to claim my son as a dependent on my fafsa?

It depends … is the child the only reason you would be considered independent for financial aid purposes? If so, then if you don’t provide at least 50% of your child’s support yourself, you are still considered a dependent (of your parents) yourself. However, if you are independent for some other reason (such as age), then you can consider your child your dependent. However, you may have to claim some of the help the father gives you on your FAFSA in the income section (read the questions carefully for guidance or call your school’s financial aid office).
