Deposit-dorm guarantee

Is it true that dorm selection is based on when deposits are received?

Yes. Students that get their preferences in earlier have a better chance of getting their first choice.

It’s based on the order that you submit your housing application, NOT the enrollment deposit. These two are separate entities and you can submit the application without submitting the deposit.

leila, is correct. I mistakenly thought the money sent with the housing app was called a deposit. Rather, it’s a partially refundable application fee.

From the admitted students web page:

Apply for housing. This is the first step we encourage all admitted students to take, even if you’re not positive you’re going to attend IU. Information on making your housing preferences and housing contract/application are currently available online at the Residential Programs and Services website. The housing application fee is $300, $200 of which is refundable if you notify us by July 1 that you will not be attending IU.
