If you accept a school's offer, you will need to send them a deposit through money order or check. How would you go about doing this if you're international. Can you send them a HSBC check (cheque)? And I think money order only works in the US. I need help from someone who's experienced this sort of problem before!

im assuming it's the same way you sent them your application fee-

international money order. you can get them at thomas cook or any other similar agency

most colleges also accepts major credit/debit cards

There are colleges that don't accept credit cards, so usually a check seems to be the easiest way to do it.

I don't know the town or country you're from, tenniscraze, but this is how it works in Bulgaria's capital, Sofia:

Walk in any bank and ask if they can issue a check to be used in the US for you. If they can, you'll have to pay the bank
--the dollars you want to send via this check
--a check fee.
Then they'll make you fill in some stuff and then give you a little paper form - that's your check. Now all you have to do is send it to your college/university. They'll take care of the rest.

On my check, besides the logo of my bank, there was another one -- the logo of JP Morgan. I guess this is the US bank which cashes my bank's checks in the States.

This is all I know about checks :).

Thanks lorddragon. None of the unis I applied to has the option of sending the deposit via credit card - in fact I don't think any uni offers this option unless you specifically request it. So it's either I ask for an international money order or request a cheque that can be cashed in the US, yes?

I guess so :).

I got mine today :) It says it's for 'Bank of New York'.
