Did your friend receive his financial aid package yet?

I ask because I received a waiver without even having to ask for one. However, my EFC was 0 (I also got a full ride from their financial aid program). If your friend is in dire need of aid, you can call the office or they’ll be able to tell based on his EFC.

Ask him if he received his aid or if he has submitted all of his tax documents for evaluation. If he has NOT received his aid package yet, they probably are not done processing it yet and he’ll want to hold off on paying the deposit. In the email they sent me they stated that they would not be able to reimburse the $400 deposit if I already paid it (luckily I didn’t).

Here’s the exact phrasing of my email:

"Congratulations on your on your admission to the University of Virginia! I am writing today to let you know that you qualify to have your $400 admission deposit waived if you choose to accept our offer of admission.

To apply your deposit waiver and accept your offer of admission today, simply:

· Log on to the Student Information System (SIS) here.

· Scroll down to click “View Decision”

· Click on the “Accept Admission” button

Please do not pay your fee when the system directs you to pick a method of payment for the tuition deposit. We will simply process your waiver once you have clicked the “Accept Admission” button. You may continue to see the message “You owe $400” for up to 2-3 business days, but please do not take further action.

Please note, if you pay the fee before receiving this message, we will unfortunately be unable to reimburse your payment. I am happy to be available by email and phone should you have any questions or concerns. Watch for more information from us about our Days on the Lawn programs, possible contact from current students and more – all of which will help you explore UVA and decide if it is the place for you!

Best wishes as you finalize your college plans"

I wish you and your friend luck!
