Deposits

I was wondering if I get accepted into a college, should I pay the deposit as soon as possible? In other words, if a college has around 500 in the freshman class, and 500 people pay deposits yet I'm number 501 to pay, will I be denied? I confused because I don't know if I should pay as soon as possible or if I should wait and compare merit money and "stuff."

I was wondering the same thing!!!

If you are accepted and pay your admissions deposit on time, you will be admitted. It doesn’t matter if you’re number 501. That’s why you read on boards like these that a school got a “higher yield” (*i.e.*more students decided to attend) than anticipated. That’s why you read on boards like these about kids in “forced triples” or “forced quads” in the dorms.

That being said, make sure you read all documents carefully. Some schools make housing decisions based on the order in which the deposits came in, so that if you’re late you may get one of those forced triples.

Also, some schools require housing deposits early on or you risk not getting housing. However, that deposit isn’t the same as sending a deposit that is your intent to enroll at that school.

When in doubt, call the school and ask about its housing and deposit policy.
