I also got a letter that seems as if it may be a likely letter, and if that is the case, I am soo excited!!!!!!!!!!!

It starts with "Thank you for your distinguished application" and also says "We will not be announcing until January, but be assured that we have already taken note of your accomplishments."

Anyway, I am really worried. I know Yale is tough to get into, but actually seeing the rejection hit me hard. Some friends with 2350's on their SATs got rejected as well. Thanks for the help, guys.

I LOVE CAROLINA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :). GL to you all, as well!

Cool, thanks guys. If I am in then that is so awesome! Getting rejected from any college sucks, even if it is as good as UNC or Yale or whatever...

Good luck to all of you; UNC is awesome so if on Jan. 15 you are rejected don't feel too bad because many will be rejected with you!

And if you are accepted then that is awesome!!

hey Helico! i applied to SCEA too (deferred) if you remember me from the Yale board lol. anyway I got the same letter from Carolina today. I'm like 99% sure it's a likely, which definitely feels awesome after the Bulldog Bloodbath. So congrats on the likely and i'm sorry about Yale. but UNC is amazinggg so i'm psyched! =)

I really think it is a likely. "your distinguished application," and "Although our admissions committee will not complete its work until January, we have already been impressed by your achievements and your potential," in the first two sentences of the letter sound pretty likely.

The rest of the letter isn't talking about our apps, but it's trying to convince us to go there. They realize we could have been accepted at other places EA, so they mention some of their most successful students and their "best value in higher education." It makes sense that they'd follow a "likely" message with some advertising lol. I think we should take it as a good sign =)

edit didn't see your post phonyreal, but we agreed lol

You'll probably get into UNC. However, there is always a possibilty of rejection so you should prepare yourself by securing some safeties as well, like Yale

oh sorry, did not know there was a difference in the terminology! However, the point is ...... Early Action/Notification is not binding......thanks for the clarification, though.

UNC defines their program as "Early Notification." Yale is single-choice early action—you can only apply under EA to Yale, but you are allowed to apply to schools with early notification or rolling admission as long as you receive the admission decision AFTER January 1.
