hey,
my friend and i were talking ( we're rising hs srs) and she mentioned that cornell students are uber depressed and everything in comparison to other ivy students. somthing about being in the middle of nowhere and isolated and such. any comments? thanks!

completely false.

there are some basic stats on this floating around, I dont remember them very much, but I do remember that one particular study found that the ivy that starts with the letter H was the worst when it came to student happiness.

your friend is about as wrong as you can ever be. First, Cornell isn't in the middle of nowhere. Second, this doesn't equal "uber depressed" students anyways. Tell your friend to get with the program and do some research on the school before making such uninformed claims.

I haven't found that to be true at all.

Not that I've seen. Other than the normal stress around final times, most people seem pretty happy.

its definitely an exaggeration. im in arts and sciences, and honestly, ive managed to go out thurs-sat of every weekend. sometimes more, depending on scheduling.

what ive noticed is that, myself included, cornellians like complaining, even when we dont have much to do. BUT the fact that we complain together (about weather, work, hangovers, etc) just brings us closer together. its part of the reason were such a tight group. my motto is, if youre a cornellian raise your glass. if not, raise your standards.

cornell is in the middle of nowhere (maybe not for you who already lived in the middle of nowhere ;) )

life revolves around campus, i think those people who do get depressed about being in the middle of nowhere were used to being able to escape into the urban sprawl and forget that they are students...

LMAO That is so true. I realized after I read your post that when someone asks me if Cornell is difficult, I'm so prepared to give a tirade about how it's sooo hard, and how Cornell if the "easiest to get in, but hardest to stay in" but then I realize actually it's not that bad. We do like to complain. We complain about about the food and its like gourmet, we have like the best dining halls in the country
