uhhh thats all i can think of at this point but ask if ya need to know more !! [just to delineate a proper picture of my chances!!]

sorry bout the typo i just copied and pasted this from my post in the Brown University forum !!

Hello,

You’ll find that those of us on the Brown board are generally disinclined to give chances, since we’re not admissions officers and it’s not possible for us to see everything that they will have access to.

I will, however, make a couple comments. It’s really hard for us to tell what the GPA means - GPAs vary wildly by school, and the courses that you take matter quite a bit. Your GPA is higher than mine was, but I was within the top 10% of students in my class, and very few people had GPAs much higher than mine. At other schools, lots of people are at or near perfect GPAs, and so their GPAs have different meaning. As far as SAT scores go, [Brown Admission: Facts & Figures](<a href=“Undergraduate Admission | Brown University”>Undergraduate Admission | Brown University) gives some information on Brown students’ SAT scores. There’s naturally some correlation between SAT scores and admission, though people with lower scores are accepted too, and it’s hard to say what got any individual person accepted. Next, it’s worth noting that 3 EC activities wouldn’t be called “numerous,” but the number need not be inhibitory…generally, it seems to be quality over quantity.

Finally, Brown cares very much about interest and fit - why are you interested in Brown, and what do you bring to it? Why do you think that Brown is the school for you?

thats my unweighted GPA but my school has a VERY different grading system where, for example, 93%-100% is an A and 85% - 92% is a B, etc
but heres some more info about me:
okay i understand and appreciate everyone’s advice !! but would organizing and colllecting books from local libraries to send to deprived children in Awlaw, Nigeria as well as organizing “Jammin for Joplin” inorder to help raise money for the tornado disaster in Joplin, MO better my chances? also both my parents have english as their second language, but i wouldn’t be the first one to go to college.
and I love community service and always want to advocate for the common good so I would love to major in legal studies or history. To be evident to my passion, I volunteer for an organization called Youth Court in which the volunteers are attorneys for teens who’ve committed first-time misdemanor crimes, i’ve been apart of this program for about 4 years now.
Some special awards I’ve gotten include a Presidential Service award [bronze] and two other Presidential Service Awards [silver]. My school also offers academic awards based on a GPA greater than 3.65 throughout the school year so I’ve received numerous of those. Also, i’m the Vice President of the NAACP youth council in my area.
And then for debate, me and my partner placed 6th for the regional KCPLD tournment and i placed 9th place for Top Speakers of the Year. In addition I recieved a bar as well as a Degree of Distinction from the National Forensic League
I’m also planning to retake the SAT in october and score higher! :]

I am not the admissions office either, but if I have to venture out on a limb I think your SAT’s and Sat II’s might be a killer for you. Also, if you can bump up your EC’s it might help a bit. That is just my take on things which really does not mean a whole lot. Good luck!
