describe your intellectual interest

What is an intellectual interest? Anything? or strictly academic?

Yes. It coudl be academic. It could also be what's on your mind that you want to explore. I applied as an Econ CAS '09 major but I wrote about religion in my intellectual interest essay.... if you need help... IM me

eric is right, but i would advise against doing what he did...in asking this question, cornell wants to know why you are applying to a particular major...this is your chance to prove to them that your major coincides with your strengths and interests...yes, writing about a completely unrelated topic would show the adcom your thoughts, but it wouldnt fulfill the purpose of the question...shwo your thoughts through your common app essay...i think here you need to be serious and talk about why you want to study a particular subject(s).

For example, i applied as an Econ '09 major, but im also very interested in history. I wrote about that interest, but i also made sure to include my thoughts about economics...as long as you do that, your giving yourself the best possible advantage in the process provided that your major is your real interest and not something stupid put down to make it easier to get in...

hmmm, what if i wrote already wrote about my "Major" interest in my common app essay.... im doing on how i have changed philosophies in my thinking etc...

Well, in that case, do whatever you want...i still wouldn't leave my major out of the interests essay but you can focus more on your interests...

btw...if you want us to have the best chance of helping you, you should give us more information...what school are you applying to, what is your prospective major, and what ideas do you have for the interests essay?

uhh Cornell, bio major

i already talked about my medical club and passion for medicine and helping others.. in a short essay common app
but i could go further more into WHY i guess.

are you doing arts and sciences or CALS?

yes yes yes yes

cornell is confusing.....i wrote bout two general interessts i had, in the first essay. bt i was confused with the 2nd essay, because thats more relted to your major....im confused...

wat if you're undecided? i can't think of wat to write for the short essays.

an academic interest can also be something artsy. i wrote about how i love my drawing and painting classes at school. u can write about drama, dance, any kind of art really, if u want to expand your horizons on this question

Luckily, I took a risk and it worked. I wrote about relibion and how it made me want to study the social sciences. Sometimes, it's not about following the rules. It's about showing someone what's in your mind.
