Describing technical details of science fair project in Additional Info section

I described a science fair project briefly in activities section. Is it okay to get a little more technical in the Additional Info section? It is still comprehensible enough to anyone who studied college level math and science. I’m just worried that only providing a vague summary of the project without any details would not prove that the project is legitimate.

Use that extra section wisely. It’s to tell them something about you usually Not already on the application. Not sure what you are getting at but why would they doubt your science fair entry? They really just have a few minutes to read the application. They aren’t going to look up every applications achievements.

I’m not worried necessarily. It would just be nice to describe the project in more detail somewhere. I know admissions officers probably don’t care for the details but if someone with some more technical knowledge were to read it, they would probably want to know the details. However, it seems like I can’t really expect that that would happen given the time constraints.

No, they won’t.

The AO will spend 10 minutes reading your application. Make that time count. More “stuff” (and extraneous stuff at that) just means less time spent reading other part of the app.

Don’t. They don’t want or have time for the details of your project. Don’t risk irritating them or coming across as not understanding what that space is intended for.

Agree. It’s not material.

And if you treat it as the biggest deal in your life, they can wonder. Or come across as not confident a simple descrition in Activities is enough.

My son included brief descriptions of his two research projects in the additional information section of the CA. He included links to GitHub. He didn’t have space to mention his research in the Activity section, so thought this was a way to include the material. He was admitted to many rather selective universities, but perhaps that was despite his including mention of research.

Okay, thank you for your responses. I did mention my projects in my activities section, so I won’t describe them further in the Additional Info section. But then, what is the “real” purpose of the Additional Info section? Describing extenuating circumstances? After all, the instructions do say, “You may use the space below to provide any additional information you wish to share.”

TBH, there are very very few reasons IMO to use this section. Just because the section appears does not mean that it needs to be used.

Students mistakenly (IMO) use the section to expand upon another section that needed no expansion (or would have been better served with strong editing) or to “explain” something that will likely only come across as whining. Don’t fall into the trap. The required portions (plus any optional essays) will give colleges more than enough to evaluate an app.

Provide something else about yourself that is not on the application. My sons application was all Ecs, mentoring, stats and academic, GPA. All rigor doing his best and determination. Leadership kinda stuff

So he wanted to let them know that after 4 years of shot put on track he achieved his best personal distance. He was also a captain. So it showed a different side of him that also included determination, leadership, drive, persistence. Was it needed. No. But it was in line with his application and actually what the college stands for. Yes.
