Description of 3 campuses/areas..what should I know?

I know NOTHING about the various Rutgers sites. When I hear Newark, NJ I cringe but I have little basis for that. I'm looking for some information about the various locations and environments. This is not for a student but a job applicant. Are the areas safe? Can someone find an affordable and safe apt nearby and what can yo expect to pay in rent?
What should one know about living near and working at one of the Rutgers campuses?
Thanks for any and all responses.

I cringe when I hear Newark too, haha. But people say it's the second best Rutgers campus to go to if you're rejected from New Brunswick (although you stated that you are not a student, so that information might be useless)

Camden is last. Camden is worse than Newark in terms of crime. I say your best bet is New Brunswick. Sure crime occurs here too, but it isn't as bad as in Newark or Camden.

For off-campus housing, check this page:
Rutgers University Off-Campus Housing Service

You get to see some of the available housing (not offered through the university) in the area.
