Desi Party

hehehe.....

the further from home the better...imagine...im going 5,000 km away from this hell hole called korea for college.

actually itl be 10,000 if i go to columbia or cornell some tight place like that! that means double the fun!

somebody mentioned the kantabai scene in kal ho na ho....now I agree that was prolly the funniest bit.

Thank you very much but Korea is NOT a hell hole..

I'm not even going to be as low as you and insult your home country called India..

how about we change the topic before this thread becomes sketchy.

are any of you posters who live in india or pakistan applying to IIT? (be thankful we don't have to deal with THAT stress...)

sorry...I shudnt have said that...in fact when I was writing that post I had just had a big fight with some koreans and I was still hot-headed. again...sincere apologies.

I hope silver_wavez has put that idiotic statement of mine aside and continue to post in this thread.

well, I took a practice JEE exam on the net...argh it was so bad, so hard. I dunno how people even get in. The avg study hrs a day is 18 freakin hours, and still ppl find it hard. that means no time to eat or do anything, not even take a ****....all to get into IIT, not guaranteed whether ul get the engineering stream u want or not...what a life.

No worries :)

lol.. No hard feelings..
Besides I forget about things easily.
And I'd love to keep on posting in this Desi party thread.. lol.. I only learnt what "desi" was on CC :)

thanks for forgettin it...well in reply to ur post from another thread, im an indian in korea...my dad wrks for samsung in geoje-do (u know where that is?). im studyin in at TCIS an international school here in Taejon. Wt abt u?

isn't it Jeju-do?
Jeju Island?

I've been to Taejon.. my cousins used to live there..

I'm in Singapore.. and I've been here for the past 8 years..

I've moved around a lot since I was young... been outside Korea for most of my life.. I miss it.. I miss the beautiful 4 seasons.. Singapore gets too hot!

no its not Jeju...thats the big island...this is a 45 min ferry ride from Busan where all Samsung and Daewoo have their shipyards.

Its been really tough adjusting to Korea, especially the lack of communication can really be frustrating.. I was in norway before I came here...was born there and lived there for 15 yrs, got so sick and tired of it that i wanted to leave, and now i feel so very homesick.

u in the American school there?

WOW Norway eh? Do you speak any Norwegian?

Nope.. You know people at SAS?

I'm at UWC :) I think SAS and our school are rivals.. tee hee..
Umm... yeh UWC is great, I'm lovin' it.. although I'm feeling the pressures of IB - (which is a complete biatch!)
www.uwcsea.edu.sg - I'll do some school advertizing while I'm at it lol..

Yeh.. Whenever I go back to Korea (I mainly stay in Seoul and the suburbs near it).. I become easily frustrated and irritated at little things.. people can be so rude and agressive sometimes.. But that's cus I'm so used to the chilled-out, easy n relaxed atmosphere of Singapore.. Man.. how am I gonna find the BUZZ of NYC? lol.. I actually CANNOT WAIT! I need to get out of the protected bubble that I live in..

I know this guy in SAS called Nick Kreston...he's playing the lead role in the play there I think...he was with me in Norway for 8 yrs. Where are u applyin in NY? Im going for cornell. super reach is PRINCETON!! MY DREAM!! well yeah, if wishes were horses, beggars would ride...

Im also applyin to NTU in singapore as one of my int'l safety schools...the tuition is soooooo low...5000 sg bucks.

Wow.. NTU and NUS are really top notch schools actually!
I would no way apply here cus I need to get out this place...
But.. NUS is world ranked and renowned..

There's only 3 unis here - NTU (the technological uni), NUS (national uni) and SMU (singapore management uni, i assume they do business and things).

Umm.. I don't know many SASers.. the ones I do know have all graduated actually.. or are in the younger years.

O.. Princeton? You like?? hmm.. I went to visit.. and Princeton and I did not mesh very well...

Now.. Columbia and I... oohh that is a TOTALLY different story ;) muahahhaa! Should I say lurrve at first sight? hmm.. yep! Instant fatal attraction.. and that's how the love story goes..

Besides Columbia ED (did you apply ED too)..
I'm applying toooo..
NYU, Barnard, UChicago, Brown, BC, Occidental (and mind you! - it's not Accidental!), Claremont McKenna, Wellesley and...... hmm.. I forget the last one... OO wait... o yes last but not least.. Wesleyan..

ah both my parents went to IIT! but nope, thankfully i'm not, i don't think i could deal with that test

both mine are from IIT Bombay...crazy parents passed the JEE...so freakin smart...im so surprised they have a stupid kid like me who gets a 1350 on SAT. oh well.

im not applyin to columbia...I didnt like NYC very much - its just too big. I was in a city of 150,000 in norway for 15 years, and mind u its supposed to be the 3rd biggest in the country and the stronghold for multinational companies and the oil biz. So NYC with 20 million ppl is just a little too overwhelming i feel. In that town in norway I knew every single road, every single bylane and alley and I just liked it that way...id prefer a place like Ithaca where cornell is so yeah...

small quiet and peaceful...thats what i like.

btw i couldnt apply ED/EA anywhere cuz i hadnt taken the SATs in time...my SAT IIs are gonna be done for the first time on jan 22nd

what is IIT... and JEE?

I got a 1350 too.. :( How STUPID of me... I must say though.. I did feel rather stupid not being able to hit that 1400..

o.. and you're not applying to Columbia.. hmmm.... at least that's one less competition.. So then.. where ARE you applying to call the cops?

my dad was at IIT bombay for masters, and both my parents IIT madras for BSE

boo..i just felt i had to say that..umm..white power!!!.wait?no..

my mom went to BHU before it changed into IIT. my dad got a seat at IIT but turned it down for med school.

lots of the indian kids from india have many relatives in IIT (often a reason that made them go abroad)

contessa, melville, eh? i'm from massapequa.

IIT is Indian Institute of Technology...the best chain of unis in India. IIT bombay is the best out of the 7 in the country. JEE is the "Joint Entrance Exam" - entrance exam for IITs. Its super hard- as i had said befr. u neeed minimum 18hrs a day studying to have a chance of getting in. The number who sit for the exam are abt 200,000 and only 3000 get in 1.5% acceptance rate. its insane. They dont give a **** abt ECs, Recs, ur school grades....it all depends on the exam.
