I have just narrowed my choices down to Bucknell and Lehigh. Now i want to revisit these schools to get a better feeling of the atmospheres. I noticed that bucknell has overnights for certain majors, but they are on weekdays. Will i really be able to see what the social scene is like on a wed night?

for some reason (i absolutely cant imagine why!), colleges typically dont love hosting high school students on friday and saturday nights. obviously, this means you wont be able to get a first-hand feeling for the many social opportunities available on the weekend. but im not sure thats the real value of an overnight visit, anyway.

the real value of overnights lies in the amount of time you have to meet and actually talk to people. your host. your hosts roommate. the two guys next door. the other person down the hall in your prospective major. her roommate, who is taking a class with your host. the ra. the people upstairs you hear listening to your favorite band.

and it is important to try to talk to that many people. your host may be great, someone with whom you are compatible and share both academic and social interests. or not. either way, it is important to see that there are other people just 20 feet away with different personalities and interests.

...and at the end of the day, if for whatever reason you really want to drink on your visit, you probably wont have a terribly difficult time finding someone (without thursday morning classes) willing to have a couple hours of fun.
