Desktop or Laptop?

Sending our first off to Smith this fall and wondering which is more appropriate. She currently has a 21" iMac desktop, but is considering selling it to purchase a Macbook Air to take to Smith. She’s artist type and does a lot of work in photoshop. Not sure the Macbook is the most suitable for this.

What are you planning for, desktop or laptop?

Desktop. My kids did more work in the library and other places on campus. Not at Smith but very few students seem to be working strictly in their rooms.

@123Mom456 Not sure I’m following you on this. Are you saying your children prefer to have a desktop at college?

Most college students have laptops. A desktop locks you to the desk in your room. Where you roommate may be hanging with friends, watching a movie, etc…

Sorry meant to say laptop.

@Nanosour If you can, get a Macbook Pro instead of an Air. MBPs are better (read: more powerful/faster) at working on apps like Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.

Thanks @odannyboySF. That’s what DD has decided on. Now just waiting for Apple to have their back to school promotional.
