Hey guys,

I got accepted into an integrated business and engineering honors program at the school I'll be attending in the fall.

I'm curious as to whether it would be smarter for me to have one laptop computer with some serious power (i7-820 QM quad core processor [1.73 GHz, 8MB cache (might opt for the 720 series instead to save the 300 bucks: 1.6 GHz and 6MB cache)], 6 GB Ram, 500 GB 7200 RPM hard drive), and just use the living daylights out of it, or get a slightly more powerful than middle of the road desktop and a middle of the road laptop. Use the desktop for homework and stuffs, and the laptop in class.

Halp?

I’d definitely would go with a desktop + laptop. I myself have an Asus UL30A (bought used for $500) and a desktop I built by myself (~$700).

The reason I went this path is that with very high performance laptops, usually they’re very heavy and battery lives are short. This negates the main benefit of a laptop (mobility), and desktops are generally cheaper than laptop counterparts because they don’t need specialized shrinking of their parts.

If you need help with either a desktop or a laptop (or both), feel free to PM me :)

Alright, I PM’d you.

Yea What the above poster said is probably the best choice. If you cant build one yourself ask a friend at college im sure there will be friends willing to help or if you really cant pay one of them like 30 bucks to do it. lol.
