So, is it even remotely feasible have a desktop at college?

For some, yes.

I don't want one because moving it in and out of the dorms would be a hassle, and you can never take it to class. But it works for some.

Unless your major/department/college requires a laptop and assumes you will have access to one, of course it is feasible to use a desktop. It might be inconvenient, but by no means impossible.

So long as you're not on your desktop 24/7, playing WoW so that your roommate can't sleep, you'll be fine.

It is definately fine, I actually have both a desktop and laptop (laptop is older.) I don't use my laptop nearly as much as my desktop. Not only because its slower, but because I am a math major and need to write things down by hand.

My brother has a desktop. AFAIK it's perfectly fine.

I have both a desktop and a laptop and I too use my laptop much less frequently. I'm still glad that I bought it because of the convenience when I do need it, but I'm also glad I brought my desktop as it's much more powerful and I have a much nicer set up (two screens, one is 22", and I installed a tv tuner in the computer).

My brother has a TV tuner too, and he can hook it up to the dorm cable. Since we don't have cable at home it means I can go and watch sometimes. It was especially useful for following the NBA playoffs last year.
