Desperate and nervous. Enough said.

First off, hi to everyone.
I'm new to college confidential and it took me about 30 min. to find out how to start a post.
=P
It was REALLY frustrating.

Anyway, I'm hoping to get some of my many questions answered since I don't know much and am in a tough position.

I'm a soon to be senior and am hoping to major in voice performance in college.

I moved to the US about 6 and a half years ago from Peru, and although I've known I've always wanted to perform (whether it's acting and/or singing) since I was young but never thought it could actually happen coming from a 3rd world country.
Anyway to make this short, I just started taking voice lessons this year and like anyone I have my insecurities.
I've been told I have a really good voice, and that I need to polish it and learn techniques, which is what I'm doing now, but my question is, will I make it?

Not only in the college, but the music program.
I don't know how to sing opera, my teacher tells me to stop being impatient and as cliche as it sounds that "there's a beautiful operatic voice wanting to come out."

I just don't know if having a good voice is strong enough to make it in the program. Especially since people wanting to major in voice have been studying since they were very young.

My first choice is Catholic University of America.
After that... probably Shenandoah, but that's a more competitive school.

Like I said, I don't know much about college and stuff because my whole family went to Universities in Peru, and they're really different.

Any help will extremely appreciated

Thank you.
:)

the music industry is very competitive. But if you make it, you will make it big most likely pay-wise. Keep your eyes on the goal and never give up.

Catholic University is WAY more competitive than Shenandoah. Voice Performance? Well, that is lovely and great for a hobby. Not so good for a career choice. Even the top 1% struggle. Not to discourage you, but to be realistic. So, you also need another major that is practical.
