Desperate Chem Help!

I seem to have a good knack for SAT tests, but I plan on tackling an SAT topic I have never had experience with in October.

800 Chinese
IIC
Bio
SAT I Verbal
SAT I Math

For biology and math iic, I have taken those classes.
I can understand chinese although I cannot speak or read much since my parents are from China.

But this time I shall have to tackle CHEM SAT II.
What should I do? It is a test I MUST take for the colleges I want to go to. I have had no experience with Chem before. How hard is it to self study chem and get an 800?

hmmmmmmmmmmm never took a chemistry course? well then it will be very hard to keep up those 800's. Even the top students at elite public high schools(such as monta vista and lynbrook in san jose, ca) who take AP chemistry fail to get 800 in chem.

I suggest you study for 8hours everyday during the summer

Lynbrook is not an "elite" public school. It is slightly above average. The teachers are decent, but the students are relatively low quality. If you are bitter that you did not get 800 despite taking chem ap at an "elite" public school, please don't stress. SAT iis aren't the end of the world. Anyone else?

I took AP Chem and still ended up with a 770, but that is roughly equivalent to a 800 anyway.

I'd say it's possible, but you probably have to do a lot of practice tests.

Get Princeton Review, and study it thoroughly. Every concept that you don't understand (this will probably be most concepts) look up on the internet. You should--with some devotion--be able to score pretty well in October.

Taking the SATII Chem without EVER taking a real course is going to be hard. I think Chem is a subject that sometimes needs to have another person there explaining things to you, as well as teaching you tricks/mnemonic devices. Also, labs in chemistry classes sometimes help.

I supposed scoring well w/o a class is do-able. But it's going to be very difficult. I suggest getting a chemistry textbook from school and read that as well as test prep books because the textbook will explain things a little better than the prep books as well as give you more background info.

well then since sat iis aren't the end of the world, i dont think you should be stressed. you should not be 'desperate' for help. maybe just get a 750+? or are those standard too low for you and the colleges your applying to...

you should take a summer course...i cannot imagine how you could self-study a whole year of chem, it is really a hard subject to master. you seem be pretty smart though, so maybe youd be ok.

um and just a suggestion from now on, if you are asking for help, try not to be so arrogant as you were to bootup. i mean, honestly, is it necessary?

Yeah, you should at least take a chem course during the summer. Maybe at your local commmunity college.

I'll just echo what the others said. You definitely need a chem course before even thinking of prepping for this exam.

I'm sure Hikaru can do it, grab a couple of books (AP and SAT2 I think some of the AP Chem books are better for learning) and study and find someone who has taken Chem. If you get stuck ask a friend etc and keep moving- it won be tat easy but it's not that hard either. I say go for it.
