okay so im really having a lot of trouble with this common app essay. im stressing out so much over it.

im going to be straight forward.
i havent crossed any milestones.
i havent had any tragic hardships.
im not into sports or anything like that.

I DONT KNOW WHAT TO WRITE MY COMMON APP ESSAY ON.

i have one idea.
and one only.

it is to write about the decade that fits me best.

i would pick a decade
and as i am desccribing it reveal aspects of my personality
for example, if i picked the 80s i could write about my intrest in fashion for one paragraph.. etc

i feel like this might be a little weird and not take me seriously (the adcoms)

please be straightforward and honest with me
i really need your afvice and you guys are all really smart (not even kissing up to you haha) so i trust you.

is this a good topic? or should i continue with the brainstorming process (ive written about 6 essays on different topics and they were crap haha )

THANKS AGAIN!!
feel free to PM me if you need

thanks for answering haha
so say if i did like one paragraph about my love for fashion. would that be weird because im not applying to a fashion school nor do i want anything to do with fashion

btw this is for topic of your choice on common app

As for the topic, I think anything is acceptable as long as it gives the admissions officers an idea about what kind of person you are. In fact, the tragic hardships, sports, and milestones topics are usually clich

As everyone else has said, any topic is fine as long as it:
SAYS SOMETHING. If it reveals something about who you are, it is a great essay.
doesn’t sound cliched. I think that is your biggest trap with that topic, but as long as you write the essay well, rewrite a lot and have a counselor or teacher read the essay, I think you can successfully avoid this.
Good luck!

if the topic reveals something about you, go for it

remember to SHOW not TELL (describe and not just say)

mine’s about 3 events that really don’t have any connection… but they actually do. I drew a connection that wasn’t obvious and it showed ALOT about me bc the three events showed different aspects of me but they also had underlying similarities.

Think about any random experience and try to think of what it showed about you. Then describe it.
that should help.
