Desperate for help!

Hey everyone I'm new to this forum and am looking for some sound advice. This is my first semester of college and all is not well. It looks like my grades will come out to A, C, C. Now, I think that these grades are unfair because I was hospitalized with appendicitis and had to have surgery during the semester. Is there anything I can do to have those 2 Cs removed completely or any other options?? This will surely ruin my chances for UCLA because I am a straight A student! HELP!

Well, you're not quite a straight-A student. You're an A-C-C-student.

You might be able to talk to administration about your situation given that you have documentation and can make a compelling case, but there is no official "I was sick take the C's away" procedure if that's what you're asking. Generally it is the student's responsibility to withdrawal from the class if the student is physically unable to perform.

Maybe I'm being harsh, anyone else have any advice?

Agreed. This is probably why most people around here say that W's have NO effect on admissions... there is no way of knowing what circumstances caused them to withdraw. Any rate it will probably be hard to remove C's, academic renewal and such is not applicable to passed classes.

1st, having two Cs would not kill your potential admission to UCLA. Now assuming those two Cs are 3 unit courses. And by the time you are you doing your transfer application (assuming you are transferring in 2 years with a 15 unit course load per semester). You would have a GPA around 3.73 if your other grades are As.

2nd, if you ever run into a similar situation you should try to work out the situation with your professor before the semester is over. It is generally easier to work something out with the professor regarding your special circumstances rather than going through different administrative branches.

is there anyway i can retake the courses? i know i didnt fail but i can get an A in those classes

if you had a D or F you could go for academic renewal, but i doubt it if you got C's

the two C's will stay with you for the rest of your life and there's NOTHING you can do about it.. MUHAHAHA.. lol jk.. dont let it bother you, you still got a good shot of getting into LA if you do well the next couple semesters...

If possible, retake the courses and aim for A. In one portion of your essay, discuss and explain about the situation.
