Desperately in need of help!

So, I am going into my Senior year, and with the common app coming out, my nerves are running a little high. My main problem is my EXTREMELY low gpa, a 2.8
This is mostly due to the terrible junior year I had. My freshman gpa was a 3.5 and my sophomore, a 3.0. But during my junior year, my friend was killed in a car accident. I became very depressed and my school forced me to go to an inpatient hospital program for around two months. By the time I got back to school, I had very little time to make up the work, and I was still pretty unstable, so I ended with a 1.7.
I took my SATs sophomore year and got a 1750, but I'm taking them again in the fall after spending the summer studying and taking a course. I've taken full practice tests and scored a 2200.
In terms of extra curricular, I am a member of my school's music honor society, a member of the school band and I am in a very prestigious youth orchestra in my area. I have really good recommendations from my teachers. I had a lot going on, so my school work really fell behind, but my gpa didn't result out of pure laziness. The schools I am looking at are
UVM (top choice)
Seattle University
Portland State
Eugene Lang

Can anyone help me figure out my chances?

I think you have pretty good chances…if you show colleges what you went through (maybe use the car accident as the topic of your essay?) then they’d most likely see a justification for your lower grades that year.
I think that for the colleges you picked, you have a good shot :D

Yeah, that’s exactly what my counselor said… Just going a little college crazy right now haha

You have a high chance to get into the colleges you chose. It’s not your fault that you did bad in your junior year. I would suggest you not to panic because the things always happen. If I were you I would just articulate the accident and depression you experienced in my essay. You have a pretty good SAT score and most of the colleges look for that standardized tests for the admission. Good luck!
