Hey, okay so i just got in my SAT scores, and they are not what i expected. My exam went really well, idk what happened. I got 1920. Is this score enough for Georgia Tech?
Iam an American living in Bangladesh. I have a GPA of 4.0
AS level results are as follows :
Mathematics 95 A*
Physics 90 A*
Chemistry 92 A*
Biology 92 A*
My Olevel results are as follows :
Mathematics 98 A*
Additional maths 93 A*
Physics 93 A*
Chemistry 94 A*
Biology 95 A*
English 88 A
Bengali 80 A
Principles of Accounts 85 A

Like i mentioned, my SAT I score is 1920 and TOEFL is 112/120.
I also work as a staff writer for a newspaper agency and am a teaching assistant for practicals in my school. I was a prefect in grade 9, and am a rover scout.
SO WHAT ARE MY CHANCES IN GEORGIA TECH and also Berkeley?
Please help me.

No one can really tell you what your chances are but you can do some research and get some idea. Most (all?) schools publish something called the “common data set” (CDS). Google search it along with the school name and you’ll see them. There is all kind of admissions and student data in there.

I looked up Cal Berkeley’s CDS and saw that 4 items are important to their admissions decisions.
Rigor of your secondary school
High school GPA
Standardized test scores
Application essay

You got to kind of figure that 1 and 2 will go together to form an opinion of the applicant.

The 25th percentile SAT score of the students that enrolled at Cal was 1870 and the 75th percentile was 2240. So, you are correct to assume that your score is a little on the low side. Try taking it again. It is a VERY long test and you do need to be prepared to sit that long and concentrate. Many people do better the second time taking it.

Cal’s overall admittance rate was about 1 in 6, again from the CDS.

Lots more info in the CDS.

I didn’t check out Georgia Tech’s CDS but you certainly can.

Thankyou
But this was my second time, and i worked really hard and had high expectations. Iam really shocked.
And it’s kinda obvious that my scores arent enough for Berkeley :’(

What is your Math and Critical Reading Scores on your SAT?

Both of those schools are out of state publics and don’t give good aid.

How much will your parents pay for college? If they’ll pay a lot, then fine. However, if your parents won’t pay for most of your college costs, then neither of those schools would have been affordable.

edited to add…

Did you know that neither of those schools will give you a lot of aid? Did you run the NPC on either web site? Berkeley will expect your parents to pay AT LEAST $23.000 per year plus international travel, plus insurance, plus you would have full loans. GT also doesn’t meet need for OOS students. It doesn’t matter that you’re a US citizen. Those are public univs whose missions are to serve their states’ residents.

You need to apply to schools that will meet need for citizens.

I got 610 in CR and 720 in Math. And my parents can pay upto $20000. Travel and living expenses arent a factor.
And thankyou both for the information :)

A mismatch, with high grades but low scores, can indicate that your high school program is not rigorous. On the other hand, high scores with low grades can indicate lack of effort If you really feel these scores reflect your abilities (and retakes do not change them) then you can also use them to guide choices: go with your strengths. Colleges understand that everyone’s brain is different and most schools want some diversity of abilities on campus.

If you need aid, neither of these schools are a good choice. GT gives virtually no aid to out of state students, and money is reserved for the tippy top students at that. GT out of state tuition for one semester is about 20,000 and that doesn’t include fees, etc. That leaves you with a huge gap that GT won’t meet.

Can your parents pay 20k in addition to the cost of transportation to and from home at least once a year, or is transportation part of that budget?

The ACT isn’t “easier” it is just different. Take a sample version of that test, and see if you do better on it. Some people do.

Yea they can. But ofcourse, if they dont have to it would take the burden off them. Because only my dad works and my older brother is in a university too.
