Desperately need help!

So I have this extremely strange situation. The photocopying machine that I used to copy my midterm report was not clear enough, so I then decided to thicken all my professors' handwriting. I also used correction pen to eliminate the unnecessary strokes so that the photocopying machine could read my midterm report much more clearly.

The problem is, I ACCIDENTALLY sent the original midterm report to one of my desired colleges (I forgot which envelope I put that in to). Therefore, the midterm report looks as if it is forged or something. I called all post office near my town and they all say that my letters have been shipped to the destinations.

What should I do now? I know that it will give me an automatic reject from that very college, but I am also concerned if they misinterpret that and think that I conducted an act of forgery. Can I get into trouble?

That does sound like forgery to me. You day that you were only making corrections, but the whole point of sending official transcripts is getting them sent directly from your school. You shouldn’t have done ANYTHING at all to your midterm report. I am not sure what the consequences will be but if I am an adcom I would definitely smell a rat because I would never know whether you only “eliminated unnecessary strokes” or altered things.

Oh well. Could I get into trouble? Like the police will catch me or what?

No, you will not get arrested. you might get rejected :-(. The college is not going to call the police and say"arrest this kid."

I hope that the one you sent it to was not your top choice.

Ah, that relieves me. I was worrying about getting expelled from my current university and being sent to court for “thickening and correcting my professors’ handwriting for the sake of photocopying clarity”.
I am still ****ed why I accidentally sent the original. Huh.
Now one of those colleges will reject me soon. Goodbye $75.

Thanks for the comments guys.

Have you considered calling the school and explaining the situation? It’s an uncomfortable situation, but at least you’ve come out and told your side of it instead of just letting them assume it was forged. Just a thought.

horrible things happen, but maybe it’s the fates telling you you wouldn’t like that school :)

Interesting. I too would call up the school and explain. They might look upon you as an applicant with integrity if you did that…?

I think you definitely need to call them. If they think it is a forgery, then the only direction is up!

However - you should never modify a form that someone else signed off on. You could definitely get in trouble with your current school if they found out. But i will give your the benefit of the doubt: in the fury of finishing off the supplementary materials you decided to modify a form instead of finding a better photocopier…

Hopefully the adcom is not as cynical as I am.
