Any recommendation on which program you prefer and why for newly admitted freshmen?
Looks like you have some more choices on Destination SMU than on ASD, such as a bus tour around Dallas (not necessary for us who are there regularly). Here is part of our confirmation email for DSMU:
At Destination SMU, you will pick and choose your own schedule. You will have the chance to meet your future classmates, attend a variety of classes and explore campus with a student ambassador as your guide. You will also have the opportunity to interact with current students and professors, get a preview of academic and campus life, and even take a tour of Dallas, if you so choose.

Unfortunately, due to courses being at capacity in the Cox School during the class visit times, no business courses will be available to visit at Destination SMU. Instead, the Cox School will be offering a class simulation for all students interested in studying business. This class will take place in Crum Auditorium in the Collins Executive Education Center at 10:00am.
My DD is doing Destination SMU on March 9.
There are two more Admitted Student Receptions in the Dallas area but I wasn’t aware of an Admitted Student’s Day. I heard from an alum that a reception in Newport Beach, CA was well attended with impressive future Mustangs.
Is there something for the parents to do? I’m assuming the schedule for Destination SMU is for the future student. Any recommendations?
I’m currently at Destination SMU. It appears that only the class sessions are for only students. Otherwise, there’s plenty for parents to do. Breakfast, lunch, Dallas/dorm tours, etc. I’ve met parents from CA, MA, TX and NJ so far. Vast majority of students are using this as an opportunity to gather more info on SMU before deciding.
My DD attended two classes and she said she loved the one in her intended major. I also asked if she found the academic sessions to be helpful and she said, “Yes, very informative.” She’s considering a couple divergent majors so today’s schedule helped solidify things.
