Would anyone be able to tell me the difference (if there is one) between Destination Tulane and Top Scholars Weekends? Would you need to attend both or are they similar enough that you’d only attend one or the other.
DT does not have the preregistering for classes, the meetings with advisors and professors, the talks about opportunities available to Honors Program members…TSW is a lot more like June Orientation. DT is more of an admitted students tour and information session.
(note: I took the above information from a thread from last year in which Fallen Chemist recommended choosing TSW over DT if possible)
It is definitely not necessary to attend both!
Here is the description of DT:
DESTINATION TULANE (SPRING)
All admitted students and their families are invited to attend Destination Tulane, a spring program that gives admitted students a comprehensive look at what life is like as a Tulane student.
Sit in on a class with Tulane professors and students
Meet current students and other members of the incoming class
Tour Tulane’s historic campus and eat in the dining hall
Get answers to many questions regarding academics, financial aid, and student life
Admitted students may sign up for a Destination Tulane date through the Application Status Portal. To view a sample schedule, click here.
Here is a link to last years TSW- note that TSW is much more detailed than DT and allows for pre-registration of classes

Top Scholars Weekend is by invitation only. Usually the top 2 highest tiers of scholarships are invited to this event.
Thank you so much @jozuko , he got an email on DT and we weren’t sure if he needed to do that and TSW but hadn’t gotten any details yet on TSW (thanks for the link to last year’s schedule).
He got an invite in his offer letter to TSW but we just didn’t have any details, thanks.
I assume that students attending TSW are still responsible for their own transportation expenses to get to campus??
I agree. If you have the choice, I would recommend TSW, which is DT+++. The main advantage of TSW is the ability to sign up for classes early, even before committing to Tulane. This is a wonderful advantage, allowing you to lock in your schedule. No need to attend DT which is also for accepted students. It would not be necessary to attend Orientation, as that is when most students select their schedule. However, Orientation is only for students who have chosen Tulane so it is a great opportunity to get to know your new classmates.
So they get to sign up for classes prior to committing, wow that seems great. Good point on orientation, I was just thinking that if he ended up committing he didn’t have to attend - but I’m guessing meeting some new classmates prior to August is probably just a big a part of that as signing up for classes. Thanks for the info.
Yes, they sign up before committing! If they don’t receive the deposit On May 1 they open up those seats for others to register!
