How much would a detention (not Saturday school), like the ones they give for being tardy affect my admissions chances to HYPS? Is this worth getting worked up over?

yes, very much. i heard they turned down everyone who was tardy to school this year.

Then 75% of the kids in my IB classes wouldn’t get to go to classes. Don’t worry about it, try not to get too many detentions cause although one detention doesn’t look bad, continued detentions and the eventual In-school suspension it may lead to will look pretty dang bad.

What about if you got a lot of detentions as a freshman but never again?

Why you get detentions would be a concern .You don’t share why you have them .

I was just tardy a lot.

Being tardy a lot leaves a generally poor impression of you in the teacher’s mind, though. One detention may be overlooked, but stuff like that is personal and, in the teacher’s mind, will not work in your favor.

Agree with Gratisfaction. Most high school transcripts do not carry information relating to latenesses or detentions. That being said, if you were repeatedly tardy, so much so that you were given detention, that factor might be included in a teacher recommendation – something along the lines of “great student, but is always late for class.”

Yeah Gibby and Gratisfaction are very correct, however you can always ask a teacher you are on good standing with to write a recommendation for you. Yet teachers DO talk to one another and based on discussions a teacher may gain a bad impression of you. Just don’t get any more tardies, this shouldn’t even be a topic of discussion. Here is the key to success: come early to class, sit in the front row, bring a big red apple for each teacher every day and you will get into the college of your dreams. LOL.

If only it was that easy…
