Question for Current Harvard Student: Is the Detur Book Prize only given to students who have a 4.0 Grade Point Average at the end of their Freshman Years? I understand that the John Harvard Scholar and Harvard College Scholar both have posted GPA cutoffs, but Detur does not.

The Detur Book Prize is awarded to students who have attained very high academic standing at the end of their freshman year, but there is nothing in writing that I could find stating the GPA necessary to receive the award. FWIW: My daughter is a John Harvard Scholar graduating Phi Beta Kappa but did not receive the Detur Book Prize her freshman year, so maybe you need a 4.0 to qualify.

My roommate received the Detur Prize with a 3.96 freshman year; I did not with a 3.92, so take that as it is. It appears that in the Class of 2017, it was awarded to students with all “A” grades with a maximum of one “A-”.
Can a student be both a John Harvard Scholar and receive the Detur Prize? My son got the Detur with a 4.0 and all As but I’m not sure if he got the John Harvard Scholar (he has not mentioned it). He is a sophomore. Thanks.
Yes, he can be both; my son is now a junior, and named a JH scholar and also was awarded the Detur prize; he had a 4.00 GPA with several advanced classes; check your son’s transcript (you need his HUID) or have him do so and send you a copy; that clarifies the issue
